InterContinental Doha The City
Ranked #6 of 137 Hotels in Doha
Reviewed August 19, 2013

As IHG Platinum Ambassador member I experienced many of the group brands like Intercon, Holiday Inn, CP, StayBridge suites and others.
I stayed in Intercon Doha The City during my recent visit to Qatar and tell you this was a great experience.
The hotel rooms & facilities were of very high standards but what made it a memorable experience was the amazing friendly staff.
I had a small problem with the room, they offered immediate transfer to an upgraded room with fantastic sea view.
My family enjoyed the stay and all of us would definitely choose to stay in Intercon Doha when we next visit Qatar.

Room Tip: Club/Executive Rooms on 40+ floor are the best to go for. I recommend room numbers 4410, 4415.

Stayed 2 nights on my way back from Africa. This is Intercontinental hotel and I stayed with the other IHG hotels many times, so with the price I paid, I was expecting they have the same standard. It wasn't a good start for me when I arrived at the hotel. They didn't have non smoking deluxe room facing the city so I had to settle with a room facing a building under construction. There was noise from the project but I was too tired to walk around asking for better room.

The hotel is in the business district area of Doha. Doha is not a big city anyway so it's still convenient to go to the major attractions from the hotel, although you have to take non-public taxi which is more expensive than the public one. The room is good although my room needed some maintenance (some light bulbs didn't work, water from shower flooded the bathroom floor). Wifi is not free in this hotel which is unacceptable for a business hotel. You can have free wi-fi if you stay at club level which is additional 300QR.

Don't bother having meals in this hotel. It's not good and overpriced. The health club is quite good. I had sport massage and it was great.

So overall, I would recommend to stay in this hotel if you got a good price. Otherwise, there must be better hotels in Doha with better value.

Overall this seemed like a very good hotel. I stayed there for one night, and the room was very comfortable with a big desk, great views, large bathroom, quiet and plenty of space. The location is convenient in the West Bay district of the city.

Didn't have time to use any of the facilities so can't comment on those, but in general the hotel seemed efficiently run. Had to wait a few minutes for a taxi to the airport but not a problem.

Room Tip: Higher up may be quieter.

We stayed here 12 - 15 July. Good hotel and the view from the room in the evening was amazing. Well equipped room, comfortable bed, HUGE shower.
There is a mall with a branch of Carrefour in easy walking distance (even in 45 degree heat)
Would stay here again if in Doha.
The only negative is the lack of taxis - you need to ask the concierge/door staff and wait 10-15 minutes, but it's not a serious problem if you are not in a hurry.

Room Tip: Higher floors have astounding views

Dear Brian,
thank you for your time and review... Looking forward to seeing you back on your next visit to Doha! Taxis can be a constant challenge in Doha and we are hoping that the slow opening of the market to new Taxi companies will improve the overall situation. Please do not hesitate until then to call our Front of House team to assist with bookings.
Best wishes from the entire InterContinental Doha The City Team

Stayed here for 2 months in one of the residence suites. Overall I would generally recommend but with caveats - see below.

Things initially got off to a very bad start as despite arriving at 10.00pm at night my room was not available due to a " maintenance problem" so I had to wait for an hour while this was sorted. The management offered me a free dinner but I declined as all I could think about was getting to sleep!

The suites are very comfortable and nicely furnished. Exceptionally comfy king sized beds. A nicely equipped bathroom with excellent shower. What wasn't so good were the lack of kitchen implements/utensils. Two of everything - two knifes, forks, big plates, small plates, big glasses and dishes etc. Also just two huge pots to cook with and one frying pan. No small pots to make scrambled eggs or boil rice for one. A microwave with no microwavable dishes i.e. glass pyrex, so all in all totally impractical for one person. I suspect the reasoning behind this is to attempt to get suite residents to dine in the expensive restaurants within the hotel.

Staff seemed very efficient and polite although only one person on duty when I checked out which made a simple 1 minute operation take 20.

Hotel has a very good gym on the 46th floor which is spacious, friendly and well managed. What isn't so good is the totally inadequate pool. It is far too small an area - more than 4 people and it feels crowded and weekends are best avoided as it is literally full of children. You also find yourself laying as close as you would to your wife in bed, on the poolside loungers. Whoever thought of the design of the pool area should be sacked!

Dear Graham,
thank you for the time to write such a detailed review. We are happy to have provided a "comfortable" experience.
To make it a "fantastic" we are currently reviewing the residence set-up and will surely take your valid observations & comments into consideration as we would like to provide total freedom of choice to our guests when staying with us - in hotel rooms & suites or residences alike (we also gladly stock up if required during a stay for i.e. special occasions).
See you back soon!
With best regards from your InterContinental Doha The City team.

Stayed for 4 days on business and have to say it's one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in.

Although Doha is a bit of a building site with all the new skyscrapers going up, the hotel was quiet and clean.

Loved the service from every department and would happily come back.

Well situated and easy to get around.

The only small gripe was the pool, a little small but that's just a personal preference, and of course it was up on the roof; 46th floor. The gym and other facilities were excellent.

Room Tip: Loved the experience.

Just a short flight from Bahrain, (the immigration line took longer than the flight.) We arrived at the InterCon Doha The City well past the 8PM Club Lounge service. The staff were more than happy to accommodate us and made us feel so welcome. One of the reasons why we always try to choose an Intercontinental Hotel into our travel plans is because of their reliable great service and professional standards.
