“Simply Outstanding”
Reviewed June 21, 2012

I was thrilled the first time I have entered the lobby of the new InterContinental Doha The City. Being surprised about the architecture of the building, design and public spaces, I have asked Front Office to show me some rooms, in particular the standard rooms, in order to see what are the minimum standards at the new hotel who has taken the skyline of Doha. Kindly the receptionist has showed me the entire hotel and I was amused by the standard, quality, design, space and feeling of the rooms which, of course, are equipped with all the latest technology. I was very lucky to see the Fitness Club too which is located on the 46th Floor. The view from the Fitness Club is almost 360 degrees and you can see the entire West Bay, The Pearl Qatar as well as the Souq. I had the pleasure to meet the Recreation Manager / Personal Trainer, Liezel, who has shown me the gym and convinced me to sign for 10 private lessons….the best thing I have done since I am in Doha. Liezel is a great professional and an expertise on TRX training. What is TRX Training, you should go and see with your eye and try at least once…simply amazing. The entire Team in the Hotel is very welcoming and they really make you feel home. I am going to the InterContinental Doha The City every other day and it is always an experience. What else to say, simply, try it once and you will not regret it.

I first stayed at the Intercontinental The City Doha in late February when the hotel first opened and again in late May. The usual teething problems that characterise hotels in the first few weeks were apparent on my first trip but I was amazed by the difference a couple of months make. The hotel staff were incredibly professional and helpful and I was recognised immediately as a return guest in the Club Floor lounge. The lounge has some of the best views over Doha and at night is particularly impressive. The rooms are generously apppointed and contain everything that the business traveller needs - an extremely comfortable bed, good shower and easy to connect WIFI access. Overall I would highly recommend this hotel to fellow business travellers and it is a testament to the hotel's incredibly professional General Manager and his team that a new hotel can be so welcoming.

I stayed at The InterContinental The City in Doha during a recent business trip. I am from Australia. My time at the hotel was very short but the memory shall live long. From George in Concierege services to Cedric (Resident Manager) and Renzo (General Manager) I was made to feel completely at home. The 2nd floor buffet (Friday brunch) was to die for. The gym was brilliant and the room could not be faulted. I stayed in a King Deluxe suite and enjoyed a view of the Persian Gulf. To the management of the hotel I extend a very heartfelt thanks for making my brief stay trul memorable. PS The courtesy of the limousine drivers to / from the airport was simply indictaive of my entire stay - "Outstanding".

Room Tip: It is the ONLY place to stay in Doha. Super location, super amenties, super service!

InterContinental Doha City – Restaurant ‘The Square’. With its fine food, unfussy service and breathtaking view of the city.
This ambitious multi-cuisine dining hangout popular with Doha’s multicultural (and wealthy) crowd has food cooked before your very eyes from various regions. ‘The Square’ with its flowing, modernist decor, sumptuous seafood, Mediterranean, Italian and Asian cuisine, lavish salad bar and breathe taking desert section. There is the sushi and sashimi at one end too. ‘The square’ impressed with the immaculate distinct impression with its beautiful ambience and extensive wine selection.
The service is super polite and the waiters add a personal touch with their big smiles.
"A memorable dining experience". :)

...but this is not what one would expect from an Intercontinental.

Internet and TV not working, room smelling of sewage and staff who want to be helpful but don't know what to do. Lights that keep blowing too. Regardless of the lights, room was very dark. Requests for help and assistance were answered but there was no response or action.

Location is good - very close to the City centre but the taxi driver couldn't find the place and perhaps unsurprisingly - it's effectively in the middle of a building site which makes it noisy at night time. Room service was ok but at times disappointing, particularly for the price.

All feels a bit thrown together in a hurry - in addition to the above shower temperature control didn't work and even the doors in the room didn't close properly. Could be good but perhaps inherently flawed. Would stay in the Kempinski, W or Four Seasons.

what a disastrous choice

there were more employees than guests

only 2 of 6 elevator banks seemed to be functioning, we waited interminably only for the lift to arrive full of workers who were shocked to actually see guests

the whole area is dust and building cranes, nothing interesting in the direct area

the rooms were gorgeous, too bad they had that formaldehyde smell of cheap furniture from China

we went to the reception desk and asked if the GM was there and they said yes but when they found out it was a complaint the GM was suddenly not available and sent one of his underlings out to meet us

this hotel was huge money for a third rate stay

big waste of money

Room Tip: get a room at Ramada Plaza (a fun place)
