If you are new to Qatar, or visiting friends, this is definitely one to do - book on a four hour tour and you will be driven down, shaken about and then given a while to relax at a beach camp. My nephew is still talking about it over a year later!

The Desert Safari adventure, using SUVs with the tires deflated, is a blast. It included thrills equivalebnt to a rollar coaster, a camel ride, and a sumptious twilight desert feast on the beach. That experience rates a "5". However, I also went SCUBA diving in this same area. The beach location on the Persian Gulf was about 1 mile south of an oil refinery. The water was very cloudy with dense green seaweed. You could barely see your hand in front of your face. --- Yuk!

This place reminds me why I love Qatar! Beautiful, peaceful, serene! Shame about the litter bugs who don't know how to pick up after themselves despite the government trying their best to enforce cleanliness of this beautiful place!

We did a day Desert Safari with Arabian Adventures. They picked us up from our villa and ran the day. Down to Sealine where we reduced the pressure in the tyres for dune bashing, whilst there, there was the opportunity to ride a camel (short ride but good for the experience). Then a 2 1/2 hour dune bashing ride. If you like a roller coaster ride with a difference then this is it! Its not for the faint hearted, there are some serious dunes to be encountered, severe drops and climbs and high speed driving, but our driver was very experienced and handled the vehicle like a pro. Lots of giggles and the occasional squeal from the back. We went all the way to the south to the Khor Al Udeid where we could see Saudi Arabia accross the water. Then we ended up at the AA camp for a spot of swimming, snorkelling and a BBQ with soft drinks, tea and coffee. Returning back to our villa late afternoon. The start was delayed due to reports of a sand storm in the area but soon back on track. Thank you Arabian Adventures.

I really loved the trip out of the city but in terms of value for money, i felt the dune bashing was too short and there were lots of delays, at night they had music playing and all the lights on so you could hardly hear yourself think, never mind speak to the person sitting next to you and you couldn't see the stars but the impromptu night swimming was an experience and spending time in a place that remains semi natural was a great change.
