I like moroccan cuisine, and I enjoyed eating at Tajine. The waiters are generally very friendly, but it takes forever to get your order, so be prepared for that. Eventually, you realise it was worth the wait though.

While we had been told by the staff on the lower level that there was a table for four on the terrace we found out that this was actually untrue and we had to sit in a dimly lit and not particularly nice corner inside, far away from the terrace and apparently also far away from the waiters. The food was nothing special at all and partially cold. Also, they were unable to serve our four main dishes at the same time, so some of us had essentially finished their meals until the last main course arrived. Underwhelming.

My friend and I had a 10 hour stopover in Doha from midnight to 10 am in June and didn't want to stay at the airport all night. We had read that Doha has little nightlife outside of the large hotels, so we took a short taxi ride to Souq Waqif, where we knew there were a couple all night coffee shops and restaurants. We had an al fresco dinner on the roof of The Tajine restaurant, where there was a nice view of the city. During this time of year, al fresco dining in Doha is really only possible at night, and it was still hot and humid, but we like it that way. The food was excellent and reasonably priced. The entire restaurant stays open until around 2 or 3am, but the front patio is open 24 hours. Some people might not like the smell of people smoking shisha (hookah) at their tables, but we don't mind it.
In conclusion, as many flights layover in Doha for 9 hours or more, don't wait at the airport, go into town to Souq Waqif day or night! If it is night time or during a cooler part of the year, you can easily walk from the Souq to the ocean front for beautiful views of the city and Qatar Mosque.

I loved this little restaurant, I ate inside twice - once on my own, and once with friends. We didn't eat that late, and were a party of about 12, and didn't have much trouble finding seats.

Service was generally excellent, and had some excellent food here during my stay in Doha. Food is of high quality, very large servings (by Australian standards). The hot bread and dip were excellent, as was the food & red tea.

I had kebabs and rice for lunch (nice), and a lamb stew / tajine for the dinner. Happy to recommend this place, and hope to return one day.

Price very reasonable - around R50 ish / person. Recommend interior as air conditioned, and non-smoking. Lunch (in summer) is very quiet due to heat, busier at night.

We have been to Tajine twice this month. The first time the food was average and the second slightly below average. The service on our first visit was just terrible - the staff were unfriendly and sullen and largely ignored you. However, on our second visit, a lovely Morroccan guy attended to us and he was friendly and helpful and we were very pleasantly surprised.

I would not recommend the food, but the outdoor seating area upstairs is very pleasant. We went around 8pm and it was quite cool despite it being June, and there was a pleasant breeze. Also the outdoor seating area upstairs let us escape the hustle and bustle of the Souq. Most days I love the activity at the Souq but there are days when sitting downstairs on the main thoroughfare can be a little overwhelming. Upstairs, you still get a great vibe but without the human traffic passing back and forth.

PS if you like your waiter, make sure you tip him directly (i.e. physically give him the tip). They have a strange system where the person who serves/waits on you is not allowed to bring you the bill. Someone else who has had no interaction with you whatsoever that night will bring the bill to you and recover any tips you leave.
