The Mykonos restaurant is located in the Intercontinental Hotel, Doha. This is good news as it means you can have a drink with your meal- sadly for a Greek themed restaurant no Ouzo.
The location is poolside with a large outside terrace and a smaller inside seating area, this actually works as it gives you the Greek taverna atmosphere. The decor is island chic, plain not overdecorated and like most restaurants in Doha spotlessly clean. The staff are friendly and attentive.
The menu is classic Mediterranean with lost of starters, both hot and cold and a wide range of main meals. The wine list is limited (this seems to be the case in most restaurants in Doha - very few regional wines or wines relevant to the establishment.). The wine was expensive but not overpriced.
I decided to eat only starters. The portions were very generous and essentially I built myself a 'Mezze' as you would call such a meal in Greece. The marinated Octopus was outstanding as was the grilled Haloumi cheese (I was pleased to see that it actually was Cypriot Haloumi and not an imitation). The dishes came at intervals so you did not feel rushed in anyway. My colleague also chose a Kebab as a main course and was very impressed.
As the restaurant is poolside you get a very pleasant experience as hotel guest and other diners are moving around, the conversation is muted and not too loud and the pool and its environs are very well maintained.
This is one of several excellent restaurants in the Intercontinental Hotel, as it is less formal than some of the others it is ideal for a quick meal or lunch by the pool before hitting the loungers at the side of the pool to top up your tan.
There is no real downside, just a very good relatively inexpensive dining spot that serves very good Greek/Mediterranean food. Well worth a visit. In fact it seems to be so popular that the night before we could not get a table.
