Overpriced small plates of pan-Asia food. Most people share the appetizer-sized dishes for variety, but for each person to dine sufficiently, you'll have to spend a fortune. There was a time when this was THE restaurant to go to, but that time has passed. That said, the ambiance is nice, so it's fun to go with a group, but at the prices you'll ultimately spend, I'm not sure its really worth it.

One plus: Spice Market still serves alcohol. You never know in Qatar when restaurants will suddenly go dry.

Doha still is a city of limited restaurant choice, but even with this in mind, I would head elsewhere. There are actually better and more affordable options one floor down within the W Hotel (check the ground-level eateries).

The menu is Asian fusion, so we selected a combination of dishes representing different regions. The portions were tiny and lacking in flavour, while the service was spotty. Hand towels smelled musty, we waited a very long while for the bill to be brought to us, even though the restaurant only had a few tables filled when we wanted to leave, but after the long wait we had to ask the host at the entrance for the check. The best thing about the venue is the decor, the club music was too loud for dinner. We do not plan to return to the Spice Market, there is a diverse selection of high quality restaurants in Doha. It's a shame that the lovely, hip W Hotel has a restaurant that disappoints.

We went to Spice Market for the sushi night (Saturday), for 220QAR you get a set menu then all you can eat sushi and sashimi in the middle. What an excellent experience. The service was very good, however I was a bit exhausted by the time you come in the front doors of the hotel and being seated you've been greated by at least 15 people, this continued through the meal with a slight variation of "how is everything" then on departure another 10 greetings farewell before you are out the door. Look, considering the opposide is the norm in Doha, it is nice, but maybe next time I might just do the like the Queen and do a little wave ;-) Now the food, WOW! Endamame beans a winner! Salad and in particular the dressing, also a real winner, similar the Benihana salad, so very tasty. We were presented with a wine menu, but for me, the wine ruins the sushi and the sushi ruins the wine, so we asked for a beer menu instead (40-50QAR for a bottle). There was no sake menu which would of been fun, sweet vs dry, cold vs warm, cheap vs expensive etc but that's OK maybe noone else enjoys sake :-) Can recomend the beef skewers so succulent and the garlic chips a nice garnish. With the sushi you get a intro platter which was really good. The raw scallop a revelation!!!! The unagi always a winner and the sashimi and the nigirizushi prepared expertly. The quality of the fresh fish very evident and thank heavens for the small portion of rice under the nigiri, not often done because it's a cheap filler, but when a small portion of rice is used it really lets the fish shine! We didn't care for any of the makizushi as the filling we received seemed to be deep fried one and then a hot saucy one, neither really tasted good to us. But that's the beauty you can ask for that not to be included in your next platter. That's what we did, but alas the fried makizushi reappeared, oh well, we just left it. On our last platter we asked for sashimi, unagi and that's what we got yum!!! Now I don't really care for desserts especially after sushi but I'm glad we did! The green tea cheesecake with lychee sorbet was unlike anything I've had and wow! My husband had rice pudding "ah la" creme brulee with the best contrast, a really tart passionfruit sorbet. We were both very pleasantly surprised. Look it aint cheap but wow, great service, excellent food, we will be back for our next special occasion. Also really good to hear decent music in the background, not just elevator music.

Spice Market at the W in Doha is amazing.

The ambiance is amazing. Dark yet appropriately distributed non-direct light.
Tables are aptly spread among the place.
Menu is big but not too big. Quality ingredients, food and cooking.

Highly recommend this place for far eastern food.
