“Great food taste & very good value for money if you don't care too much about ambience”
Reviewed August 16, 2011

Tasty, practical, semi-fast food. Excellent Kebabs, mixed mezze and roast chicken.
Very good value for money. Upstairs dining hall has family room. They also cater to a large number of take-away customers. Parking can be a problem, but you'll get it with a bit of patience and luck.
Not a place with ambience where you go to relax and dine with family and friends, but a great spartan place if you are hungry and looking for a reasonably quick bite that will titillate the tongue.

“If you haven't eaten at Turkey Central you haven't experienced Doha”
Reviewed July 29, 2011

Turkey Central has been around for years in what is now an older part of the city and has long been a Doha institution. Many an expat dinner party consists entirely of Turkey Central home delivery. The owners (brothers) are the cashiers which is a large part of the success; they refuse to open another branch although demand is sufficient for probably 10 more.

The food is traditional Arabic fare although the quality (and in particular flavour) of the grilled meat, the freshness of the naans (bread) and the machine like consistency of quality are second to none. They also have a huge fresh juice bar.

You can eat there in a very basic but functional dining room on the second floor where you'll truly experience the freshness of the food. You can take away or if you're order is above a certain amount get home delivery. What every you do, if you haven't been to Turkey Central, you haven't eaten the best Doha has to offer at the most reasonable price.

Note, the official name of the street is Mirqab Al Jadeed Street or New Mirqab Street but most know it by its old name of Al Nasr Street.

“Turkey Central - eat 'til you drop' in Doha!”
Reviewed June 14, 2011

Eat till you drop; eating to surfeited collapse is somehow the meaningful translation of the Japanese Kuidaore.
But to ruin oneself by extravagance in food will not directly happen here because of the reasonable prices. The atmosphere is more like being in a staff canteen but somehow authentic...
Go for the starters, especially their excellent "Hummus" and eggplant dishes and have some grilled lamb as main dish.
But don't be there late on weekend - the place tends to get quite busy.

“Terrific bread”
Reviewed June 8, 2011

Turkey Central, just outside of Cholesterol Corner in Doha, is a frantically paced restaurant that is always bustling.

The marble floors, stone walls and solid ceilings make sounds seem louder and louder so when it gets crowded in there, you can't hear your dinner company talking. That's frustrating, but everything else about the restaurant is very good.

The hummus and baba ganoush are very good (though Beirut Restaurant has the best hummus in Doha without a close second). But the Afghan-style bread here is the draw. It's made fresh and in a wood burning oven. With sesame seeds on top, it's hot, chewy, and tasty.

The mixed grill is standard fair here and it's very good, though the kafta seasoning is a bit bland sometimes. The schwarma is top notch (but I will admit that down the street is a schwarma stand called Istanbul Schwarma that is the best I have had in Doha).

Come for the bread and dip it into the hummus. You'll fill up and to it for about 12 Qatari Ryal...about 4 dollars give or take.

“Best shish Tawooq in Doha”
Reviewed December 9, 2010

Cheap and good for take-away. Best shish Tawooq in Doha ( or anywhere I have tried for that matter ). Moist and flavoursome chicken pieces - to die for!! If you like it spicy, tell them extra spicy and to add green chillies (make sure to mention you don't want extra Tabasco though).
