“Abysmal service, average food”
Review of Doha Golf Club

I've heard many good things about the restaurant at Doha Golf Club and, unfortunately, none of the were realised during today's visit for lunch. Upon arrival we were blanked by the waiting staff so had to ask if we could sit somewhere. They then continued to ignore us, so we went and got our own menus. After waiting unsuccessfully for someone to take our order, we collared a passing waitress who successfully failed to get our order right three times until we finally got through to her. The food turned up in reasonable time, together with our waitress, who just wanted to check that the six of us had only ordered five courses(!). So, while the five of us with food tucked in, my daughter had a ten minute wait for her meal. The food was fairly average, being largely chip based with accompaniments generally taken from the freezer aisle of Carrefour. The concept of a side salad, or even a couple of vegetables in the side, appears lost on this particular restaurant. So, in summary, not at all what we'd been led to believe by other reviewers, atrocious "service", and food so bland I've already forgotten what I had. Best avoided.

The golf club is nice. We were giving a special care from Alessandra (Brazilian). She made us fell we were in the best golf camp from the world.

I visited the Golf Club to use the range and have dinner.

The range is a pleasant area with plenty of space - in the UK, it'd be called a practice patch. Balls are relatively expensive at QAR45 for 75 balls but, in the absence of any competition, it's understandable that the prices are relatively high.

Dinner in the Clubhouse at the Oasis Lounge was pleasant but the food is pretty average. It's similar to what you'd expect in a pub. Very limited choice for vegetarians.

Service is very mixed - the reception desk in the clubhouse is more like a security checkpoint and the staff in the Clubhouse were fine but not particularly attentive.

Taking into account that service standards tend to be lower in Doha than some other cities, the Golf Club is pretty good.

Great food and service. Lovely views and a cool breeze in the Doha heat.
I didn't play golf here, but it seemed very busy and popular.

Other than the 5 star hotels the Doha Golf Club is only place in Doha to have a beer and there is a nice view from the patio in a town which otherwise more resembles a building site. The catering is ordinary and not cheap. The condition of what is a championship course hosting a tour event (Qatar Masters) is pretty poor, particularly the greens which are in a very bad condition. The rough is long and not very forgiving for the high handicap player. The members informed me that the rough was actually comparatively short at the time and the greens had been a lot worse, the course only in fair condition around the time of the "Masters". Given the cost of the green fees, one would expect a lot better from a "championship course." Being the only grass course in Qatar the members, who pay very high membership fees, have no choice but visitors are likely to be disappointed even at summer rates.
