“Wonderful but Crowded”
Reviewed April 25, 2013

I love this place and I will always do though it gets very crowded especially at night. Al Hamra offers the most wonderful experience one could expect. In the early hours of the morning, you will find many restaurants and cafes offering variety of foods for breakfast; mostly Middle Eastern. the shops start opening about 9:30 to 10:00. It is not the shops that are directly on the main drag that one would find interesting, but more so are the ones on the smaller side roads and alleys. They are offer good merchandise, bargain prices, and the most amazing interactions (especially if you speak Arabic). At night, the whole of Lebanon (especially the tourists or those trying to befriend one) come to Al Hamra. The sights and sounds are very amazing and amusing and should not be missed.

“Too congested and crowded.”
Reviewed April 22, 2013

Perhaps for women that have shopping frenzy it is cool. But the street is way too congested all day as it has a mixture of clothes stores to street cafe's as well as Hotels and Restaurants. So in a place like Beirut with people smoking shisha, shopping all the time or eating what do you expect? It is Ok to see, for curiosity perhaps. But would not recommend to hand out there as it is very noisy and chaotic.

“too crowded”
Reviewed April 15, 2013

You will only like this place if you are missing the feeling of being overwhelmed and crowded. Lots of variety of shops and cafes, plenty of people going back and forth and looooots of beggars.
