this is a historical monument in the city of Beirut, related to the independence. It is an easy place to reach, plus in addition you can walk to beirut down town or beirut souks after this

“A great Symbol Of Independence”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 10, 2013

This is absolutely the greatest Symbol of the independence of Lebanon. It represents the people who gave their lives to uphold the independence of Lebanon. It is indeed an important historic icon of Lebanon

“One Statue to see ... & that's it”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 11, 2013

If you go to the Place des Martyrs, you'll only spot one Statue & ... that's it. Nevertheless, the area nearby is full of life ... the center of the city. Plus, this place holds a very special place for the locals, being where many revolutions have taken place and where millions gathered to shout for peace. It's an interesting place; you'd want to see for 5 minutes and then move to the next places near by.

“even the martyrs dont get much respect in the land of Solidere”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 15, 2012 via mobile

so clearly, downtown beirut was highjacked and martyr's square suffered the first blow. inhospitable, grey, often dirty with a few babysitters dressed as the army. until they (the corrupt municipality) invest in a dozen benches and the square becomes a gorgeous green space (which it ironically is on every tourist map) i suggest you drive by it. at most.
