I did not like discovering this neighborhood no added value filled with counterfeit items and very low quality clothing. If you want to shop just don't stop here

We stayed in this area for 5 nights. The traffic is rather chaotic, but drivers normally stop if you step out into the street and raise your hand in a stop sign. The main drag is full of restaurants, supermarkets, and the occasional tourist shop. It's authentic Beirut. The main drag cafés have seats outside, on which the local men sit and watch the world go by. We walked around the area each night and found it very pleasant.

We stayed in Coral Beirut Hotel which is located in Hamra Area close to the seaside. This place is the centre of the city. We would recommend to visit this area for good vacations. We've been to this place twice.

This is a fabulous up market area and probably no more than 20 minutes walking along the Corniche to/from Zaitunay Bay; if you’re so incline. West Beirut Hamra is a mix of old & new architecture. Like many main attractions in and around Beirut there are security street barriers and manned security points. The absence of greenery in the newer shopping sections makes the feel about sterile, although the place is very colourful and lively at night. Older locals do say that this area has lost of lot of its more bohemian-like charm, but nevertheless it is a favourite place for many locals.

I highly recommend staying in this part of town. It has a nice combination of high class and ruggedness at the same time. Very close to the bars and restaurants. Walking distance to the sea and the more expensive vacant downtown. The best are the small shops for all your needs (e.g.: cell phone services, barbershops, clothing stores, etc.)
