I heard alot about this area, and when we went to visit it was not a very nice place. Sure there are a lot of restaurants and shops there but it's not the impressive and nice place it used to be. You can find some better places in Bierut (mainly Beirut Souqs) it offers the same atmosphere with a richer environment

If you like Philly's South St. or NY's G-Village, then you'll fall in love w/Hamra St. in West Beirut. My wife and I spent nearly every evening there our last trip. The atmosphere is both free and diverse: pious Muslims enjoy coffee & sheesha at the numerous cafes, while a few doors down impious Muslims join Christians at packed bars that pepper the area. Live and let live! Art galleries, bookstores, shops & restaurants of every sort. If your in Beruit, don't miss it!

You can walk in hamza where there are different restaurants and shopping areas with varying prices. Everyone loves hamra and it is reflected in the variety of people walking and visiting.

Noisy and crowded area expressing the typical hussle and the busstle of a busy city. Full of cafes, shops from another era, modern shops as well as international chains. Traffic there is horrible and takes a long time to go in and out of.

Investigate the side roads off Hamra for some quaint pubs. It is very safe and if you go all the way to the end you can walk back along the Corniche.
