We visited the restaurant with friends for dinner and it was the best dining experience we had in a very long time. All the courses served were magnificent. There was a live band that played songs the diners requested which added a nice touch to the experience. The only downside is that the waiters were very rude. One waiter spilled my glass of water on my purse and mobile and didn’t even apologize. However the manager was very accommodating and professional.

this one is a difficult one to review, so allow me to cut this into sections:
- food: fantastic, local, authentic, but way too much. I just hate to think how much goes to waste ! We might have managed to eat 30% of it?
- service: for that highly acclaimed place, very, very poor. Anywhere from the appearance (uniforms looked awful, wrong fits etc.), to very poor English (only two gentlemen spoke good English), lack of attention to details etc.
- The worst was bringing all these wonderful dishes with no explanation what they are - kind of: here you go, next dishes arrived.
- sommelier - non existent at all. Luckily, I knew two wineries in Lebanon and asked for these specific wines, as no one was able to explain / encourage / offer anything else
- it is more of a local overall social experience vs purely a culinary one
- nowhere close, with the current staff (matter of a lot of training, if aspiring at all) to get to a Michelin level place

I visited Em Sherif for a birthday meal with my partner. The food is outstanding, the best that I have eaten in Lebanon. Stand out dishes were the shrimp, chicken and raw meat. For the diversity & quality of the food I think the price is fair.
My one big issue with the restaurant is the amount of food that is served. There is just far too much of it for 2 people to eat. I was unable to eat much of the hot mezze and also had no room for dessert either. There were 4 hot mezze dishes that neither of us could eat - as we were too full and I asked one of the waiters if I could take it away, to prevent food waste- as it would just go in the bin otherwise. I was told Em Sherif has a ‘no take away policy’. This is quite frankly unacceptable, as that food would have just gone in the bin, and created a large amount of waste which I find distressing and sad.
I was planning on coming back to Em Sherif when family come to stay in April but until I have a response on this issue of food waste, I will be reconsidering where to take them.

I was looking for the definitive mezze dinner in Beirut and found it at Em Sherif. My fixed price dinner consisted of 15 or so cold dishes, 8-10 hot dishes and 6 deserts. Everything was delicious.

Service was disappointing. It was very good at the beginning but once a group of 18 arrived we were ignored. My water glass sat empty for 30 minutes. It took a long time to get a bill. No one checked in us for extended periods of time.

Reservations can only be made by phone, not email.

Prices are reasonable. We cashed in dollars elsewhere and paid in Lebanese pounds to take advantage of the favorable unofficial exchange rate. I was told by third parties that the restaurant would accept US $ but at the official rate.

Taste the best of the Lebanese cuisine at Em Sharif restaurant. Tasty food and many to choose from so you don't know where to start from.
