We stayed in Beirut over Eid, so it was a given that the hotels would be overpriced. We had single rooms that cost $110.00 each including tax and breakfast. The management was very friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was fine, eaten in the newly refurbished dining room (only for breakfast right now). If only the rest of the hotel had matched up... My room was quite small, my friend's was bigger. He had a safe and a telephone while I had to ask for a telephone and used his safe. His mattress was torn open, but that was his biggest complaint. The bathroom of my room was appalling. If you only turned on the sink tap a little, water went all over the floor. It was impossible to get a decent shower - the shower head holes were at least half blocked and water came out from different places in the hose, leaving very little to go on me. The place was adequately clean, but so old and in need of refurbishing it didn't give an immediate impression of cleanliness. All rooms had small balconies overlooking Makdisi street or a side street. This was, in my opinion, a complete backpacker's hotel, although clearly it was not backpackers who stayed there. For fifty bucks, I would be writing a different review, so if you can get it cheap, not so bad.
