Le Commodore Hotel

I stayed in this hotel for 4 nights. Located in the old city center; on Hamra Street-famous one. American University of Beirut is in this district so there are maybe 40-50 pubs around; full of university people. You need to consider an awful traffic if you are going to the new downtown.
The building of the hotel is old. Also the furnitures are old.
Rooms are big enough with balcony.
There is no shower; you need to use bathtub.
TV has many channels with recent movies for free.
Smoking is free in Lebanon. So if you don't smoke reserve a non-smoking room which is hard to find.
Try to get a room on street side.
Breakfast is really poor.
They have business center and it's free.
Service of the hotel is OK. The employees are working in a very comfortable mood.
I wanted the guy on the lobbly to call somewhere and make reservation and he refused for 4 times. I could convinve him on the fifth when he understood I'm getting really angry. For another issue, another staff made all the efforts but his information was limited and was not usefull.
The requested price, USD-130 was much for what I took.
There isn't a lot of 4-5 stars hotels around exept Crowne Plaza so I would stay in there again since I don't have many options.

We usually hold a workshop once a year at this fine establishment in the Hamra district of Beirut. The staff is very friendly and go out of their way to be helpful. This was the historic hotel where foreign journalists covering the Lebanese Civil War stayed and there used to be a news bar that was still around a few years ago. This has been demolished in favor of the latest "italian chic" lobby atmosphere. A pity really... The Benihana restaurant is great with all you can eat Sushi on certain days.

This hotel is in the Al-Hamra district, which has average shopping but not the best by any means in Beirut. I would actually recommend staying more on the Corniche rather than an Al-Hamra. At any rate, hotel is nice and clean. The free breakfast buffet is wonderful and is almost worth the stay. The problem is that the double beds in the rooms are twin size at best. Also, there is no free WiFi anywhere in the hotel. You even have to buy a 24 hour pass even if you want to just look up one website in the lobby. Also, the staff is difficult to deal with. They will not exchange specific currency, coins, etc. They will recommend taxi services which are overpriced. The worst part is the hotel has a "security" guy who goes around and tells you how to sit. This is no joke. They expect you to sit a certain way in the lobby or they approach you. I saw this on numerous occasions. It was quite rude and I've never seen anything like it. Also, when you check out, they wait until they send someone to your room to examine it. Poor, poor customer service. Rude and not helpful. Would not stay here again.

Room Tip: Bed sizes are SMALL. Do not get a double room --- it's really two twin size beds.

This hotel could be anywhere. It seems to cater mainly for Arab businessmen, not for tourists and has no local atmosphere. The rooms were clean, beds comfortable and breakfast adequate but not anything special. The service at reception was fine, but we ate dinner there one night and the service was atrocious. The food was average, except for the rosemary and olive bread, which was to die for! Really enjoyed Lebanon and the hotel was a good base.

I was at the Commodore on a bussiness trip. Reception staff very effective (there was a problem with my booking and they overcame that very quickly). Check in fast and clear. Staff gave very useful advice on the surrounding area. Rooms are unusually big and well furnished for a biz hotel at that price range. Internet was free (although bit slow), bed was very good and bathroom full of amenities. Breakfast buffet also very rich, of a quality higher one can possibly expect. Area is very nice, full of shops or bars around. This will be defintely my hotel again in Beirut.

Its not a "Le Meridien" hotel as they claim on the Net. We had a terrible experience with very bad services. Complained many times, no action or reaction.
Very expensive but they benefit from what was supposed to be a "High season", although no Tourism now in Lebanon as it should be.
We had to stay there because other first class hotels in that area were full.
A hotel with no standard at all...but a very low level

Never again

We had to stay in this hotel since April was a busy season for Beirut and we couldn't book any higher rated hotels..Although the hotel was not that uncomfortable and it was somehow close to main attractions..it was pretty expensive..we haven't had the chance to taste the breakfast or other meals..though the beverages that were provided in the lounge area were not that special..and the staff..well..one of the staff members entered our room in the morning about 8:00 am ish without knocking..and when i asked what he's doing there a little terrified..he replied just to check the bar and told me to have a nice sleep..lol! and took abou an hour to both check-in and out..If you have money to spend and you have no other choice..Stay in this hotel..
