Hotel has a control gate ,like at airports, but after that is one of the best in Lebanon,
Enjoyed my stays in this hotel, because of the fantastic service, even barber visited me in my room, to cut my hair, breakfast fantastic around the Fontaine in the lobby, the place in the afternoon and evening changes to a bar, lot of local guests, specially laaadies with overdosed make up, restaurants are nice, lovely buffets, nice shop with clothes,
Rooms are exclusive, forwarding nice harbour with yachts , before it was called Saint George harbour, now Zaituna bay.
But anytime u go in or out is check point charlee waiting u!,,

The first time I slept in this hotel was in 2006, during the 35 days of war between Israel and Hezbollah. I came back a lot of times in the next years and discovered that time seems to stand still at the Intercontinental Phoenicia Beirut: everything, marbles, swimming pool, beautiful spacious rooms, excellent service and discreet gaze on the sea, the scent of the Orient, everything is in the right place, year after year. I suggest the Phoenicia for those who want a stay in an exclusive hotel in the heart of Beirut, a few steps from the sea. And do not forget the amazing buffet at Mosaic and fine dining at Eau de Vie at the roof top. It's a must.

This hotel plays down its Intercontinental connection but nevertheless operates as one. Some of the suave French pre-Lebanese war character has faded in keeping with the current trend but it still has style. Good restaurants. My favourite is the Italian at street level. I was lucky enough to have a sea view room overlooking the swimming pool and across the street, the marina. Despite this the room was quiet and the curtains effectively blocked the daylight if required.
The bathroom floor tiles incorporated Phoenician mosaic designs that reflected the general high standard of traditional decor in the hotel. There are not many that have the lobby floor ceiling covered with gold leaf!
The room was very comfortable, WiFi (free) reasonably fast, though the electrics could do with some updating (insufficient power sockets for computers and room light switches problematical etc). Adequate wardrobe space and proper hooked coat hangers. Service was excellent and friendly. I noticed that the Lebanese, from Immigration officers to hotel staff are making a genuine effort to be welcoming to foreigners.

Room Tip: Sea view is the best.

It has been a fabulous experience even though it was a short Break. The room setting was excellent, the breakfast is to die for, and the staff are all most accommodating. I feel that when going there It's like going home. Definitely worth a return visit.

Room Tip: Try one of the sea view rooms on the higher floors, definitely worth the extra spend.
