Given that this Mexican bar/restaurant is only a stone's throw from my house, I have been there countless times in search of some dinner, a drink or women (in my single days). Yes, ladies and gentlemen, this place is funnily enough a singles bar with many a patron on the hunt for a member of the other sex. The women usually come in packs (like wolves) and camp at the bar looking for eligible well to do gentlemen. On the other side of the equation, the men go there looking for well you know what :-) .... This all overshadows the fact that this place actually offers very good Tex/Mex cuisine (the chicken quesadilla and the chicken wings being personal favorites) and a very good bar atmosphere complemented with good music (tasteful oldies) and a professional staff. The clientele is mostly composed of individuals in the 30s and over category. I have been frequenting the establishment for about three years and it has maintained its standard in every aspect. It is a regular venue for me and always an enjoyable one.

“Mixed up”
Reviewed July 13, 2012

This mexican pub/restaurant place is located at Gemmayze street. I've been there 3 times just to make sure i don't like it, and to be fair before i give this review.

Food too oily and tasteless.
Music too loud can't talk to people with you on the table.
Drinks...well if it's anything other than a bottle of whiskey or vodka, it was terrible.

The place is crowded though but i have no idea why, maybe over crowding makes a good atmosphere.
I am not in.

“Great cocktails, great Mexican food!”
Reviewed March 13, 2012

Joe penas is tucked away down a tiny alley in gemmayze with a gorgeous little courtyard and an airy Caribbean feel to the bar/restaurant. Happy hour cocktails are incredibly well priced and the food is fresh and flavor packed.
