“Not really a 4 star hotel!”
Reviewed September 17, 2010

Coral Suites is listed as a 4 star hotel with a great location .
Actually it is situated on a side street.
The entry is very nice , with many flowers ; the lobby is nice decorated.
When we arrived the reception staff was very efficient handing the keys.
The room was dark, the sheets were dirty and we had to call reception to have clean sheets. The furniture is new , but nothing spectacular.
It had a balcony with no view but an old building devastated by war ; very depessing.
The sitting room has a microwave and a fridge, and also a Tv.
The breakfast was good , but lunch doesn't offer too many choices.
You can have breakfast at the tables in front of the hotel , which I thought was very nice.
Very clean tables and nice service.
There was a big screen outside ( to watch soccer) over a cup of coffee.
The conference room is big and nice , but ventilation wasn't working, which was very unpleasant in june.
There are many electrical power cuts also.
It is just walking distance from shops and restaurants in Hamra St.
We had very nice trips and cultural evenings , so we didn't spent too much time in the hotel.
The staff is friendly and helpfull.
There is room for improvement.

The location of the hotel was convenient to walk to the Rauche (Pigeon Rocks) sea front area. There's many shops and restaurants surrounding the hotel within walking distance but to get to the Solidere / Gemayzeh area where the bars and clubs are, will cost USD13 by the blue cabs outside the hotel. Our trip from the airport to the hotel in the blue cab cost USD25 but our return trip from the hotel to the airport in a cab hailed off the street was USD7. The worst thing about Beirut is having to haggle on cab fares and accommodation is expensive for what you get. The room was spacious with a kitchenette and living room. Breakfast spread was quite limited with a selection of cheeses, breads, salads, and a couple of hot dishes. The front desk staff weren't very helpful or knowledgeable and not very friendly although the bell boys were helpful. My loyalty points for the Hadaya membership were never added after staying at this hotel.

This hotel provides perhaps the best value for money I have ever found.
For 100 dollars I got an amazing level of service and confort, according to Beirut standards.
PROS
- Room quality. Everything was new and in perfect conditions
- Sleep quality: excellent mattress and silence
- Service: very helpful staff. They upgraded us to a suite (with a fully equipped kitchen at no extra cost)
- Breakfast: fresh fruit and a wide selection of lebanese and continental food
CONS
- Can't really think of any

This hotel is new and the rooms are nice. The location is central, and the breakfast is Lebanese and nice. We enjoyed our trip.

However, management is irresponsible. We had booked a junior suite (2 adults / 2 children). When we showed up they told us there was a problem and all they could give us is a deluxe room (sleeping was uncomfortable).

My aunt who came a week later booked 2 junior suites. They told her the same thing and gave her 1 junior suite. She had to sleep on the floor with her daughter's family.

After talking to one of the guys there (I'm Lebanese myself) he told me that the hotel was overbooked.

My recommendation is to go with an international brand during peak times.

Overall, my colleagues and I enjoyed our experience.
The good things were location close to Hamra street which helped in shopping, spacious room, friendly staff, quick response, cleanliness, recently renovated in 09-09-09, nearby hypermarket 10min walk, nearby Raouche 15min walk, taxis always available
The bad things were no variety in restaurant food, very slow internet (general in beirut), slow checkin and checkout process, no view, small lobby, room service a little bit slow

Hotel is in the Al Hamra district where nightlife is in walking distance. If you choose to see the north and south of Lebanon, it is still driving distance as the country is very small. The staff are pleasant and the breakfast is pretty good and comes with the room.

I liked this hotel so much it is so clean rooms are very spacious and has microwave in it, which is not the case in other hotels. Breakfast is very good with lots of variety. Wi-Fi connection is fast and available all over the hotel (lobby, restaurant, room). Location is good in the heart of Hamra Street. I would recommend the hotel and if i go to Beirut again i will stay there.
