Owner description: Tours by appointment only! The Only House in the World entirely covered with Mirror Mosaic by a single artist! The Mirror House, also called, The Khalifa & Lidia Qattan Art Museum, is the residence of the Pioneer Kuwaiti Artist, Khalifa Qattan, and his wife Lidia, both artists whom have opened their house and art galleries to share their unique art with people from around the world. The artist and creator of the Mirror House, Lidia Qattan, still gives personal tours of her magical house, which is in reality a wonderful journey of exploration.

I went to the House of Mirrors with a friend. When you first arrive, you sit inside and wait. (Do not wear high heels, if you do, bring a pair of slides) Ms. Lydia will walk you around the house. She is all of 4'10"... A lot of art is around... It is everywhere! And interactive as well. I loved my time there.

It was my first visit to the mirror house that I heard so much about. The mirror mosaic starts from the outside of the house and continues all over. This was all done by one artist, Lidia Qattan. The walls, floors, ceiling and bathroom are all cover in mirror mosaics. Lidia, our gracious host began her talk and tour with ginger and cinnamon tea and cake. She took us through the halls of the mirror house, entrance, my world, planet earth, the zodiac, corridor of the nations, shark basin, sea world, the universe, knowledge and the stairs to insperation. The tour is by appointment only and it's closed on Monday. No high heels allowed to protect the fragile mosaic floors. Well worth a visit if you are in Kuwait.

Just got back from an exhilarating and excellent visit to the Mirror House. I guess I'm a reasonably well travelled guy, so it's rare that one experiences anything totally unique, such is the Mirror House. Firstly, let me stress, please call before arranging a visit....as tours are strictly by appointment....a fact that could be amplified more clearly on the tourist websites. Nonetheless, our hostess Lidia, the utterly gracious and charming creator of the museum, accommodated us with a bespoke tour for me and my mate. Lidia is from Italy, and married an esteemed local artist, Khalifa Qattan, now sadly passed away, and between them, Lidia through her incredibly hard work and invention, sculptures and artefacts, and Khalid's philosophical paintings, have created a quirky masterpiece. Each room is decorated with the eponymous mirror mosaics, but as Lidia highlights the inspiration and "poetic cosmology" behind the designs, and presents each gallery as a themed son et lumiere, I found it impossible not to be moved and inspired by her exhuberance, intelligence and vitality.
What a unique gem! Definitely THE highlight of any visit to Kuwait, and a refreshing antidote to the rampant brand-driven consumerism that otherwise characterised the country!

Not every day one is allowed to touch, sit or even walk on art. The Mirror House is a place to see, that is for sure. You will get told the reason why she started the mosaics and you will love to listen to her stories with a cinnamon tea in your hand. The mirror mosaics are everywhere, walls, ceiling, floor, doors, seating arrangements, tables, kitchen sink, downstairs, stairs, even in the elevator. Upstairs is another world, as she put it. Artwork from her late husband, other artists and of herself is there to see. Apart from her mosaics in mirrors, she does also sculptures. These are built for a use. Candle holder, table lamp, all sorts of uses. If you like it, some of the exhibitions are even for sale. The tour is also children friendly, feel free to take the whole family.

We went there last night and I was really amazed. So much hard work has been put into this place. Replacing walls with broken mirrors and mosaic mirrors. It is a must see if you are visiting Kuwait. You need to call and make an appointment but well worth it to see this place.
