My wife and I did a customised 7 days cultural tour with IranAmeze in October 2023.

We agreed our itenary from UK via phone, email and WhatsApp. Ali helped us with visa application and made us feel extremely comfertable for get go. He arranged mobile sim cards, vpn access and even gave us a pre paid debit card to use in shops.

Our tour guid for all of the days was Farid, the most amazing person we have ever met in all our travels. He was more like fried than a guide, took to to places not on our itenary and treated us to coffee, ice cream and even paid for our dinner. An absolutely incredible man who I now consider my friend.

The tour is a whistle stop of Tehran, Kashan and Isfahan; we wish we had more time.

Thank you Ali, IranAmaze and Farid for one of the most wonderful trips of our lives.

Arranged my climb to perfection. Very responsive and experts. Arranged my Iranian visa. Met me at the airport and took me to the mountain. My guide was excellent, helping me the first day when I had leg cramps and had to descend m. But I tried the next day and my guide helped me make the summit. The best!!

Since young I have always been fascinated with the history and culture of Persia and I love Persian carpets and Iranian food (which is very hard to find in Singapore). As such, visiting Iran has always been on my bucket list, but what held me back was all the negative impressions we keep getting about the country from the media. However, some friends who had visited Iran encouraged me to do so, telling me not to believe the media. And so, after a 3-year hiatus in my travels because of the Covid pandemic, I decided to finally take the plunge this year and visit Iran on a private tour with a friend.
As we couldn’t find any tour agency in Singapore that offered tours to Iran, we decided to contact a few recommended tour agencies in Iran (including IranAmaze) to find out about visiting Iran (e.g. the visa and insurance requirements, the safety, the weather, the social etiquettes (like dress code, whether gender segregation is observed), the places (like historical sites, monuments and museums) to visit, the hotels and their amenities, the things to buy and how to pay for them (as credit cards are not usable in Iran on account of the sanctions), etc., etc.).
Ali from IranAmaze was very responsive and corresponded with us via WhatsApp and met us virtually (on Google Meet) on several occasions to answer our queries and help us plan our tour. (The team in IranAmaze speak excellent English). Ali was very clear, comprehensive and reassuring in his replies to our queries (“Come and see for yourself, and you’ll find that Iran is a really beautiful country to visit”, he told us), and that sealed our decision to go with IranAmaze. He then helped us to plan an itinerary for a 14-day private tour that covered the important cities and sites efficiently and sufficiently and yet not too tiringly (starting from Shiraz in the south and moving northwestwards to Yadz, Isfahan, Qom, Kashan, Tehran, Rasht, Ardabil, Masuleh, Tabriz and then back to Tehran for my flight home). He even gave us some very good suggestions of hotels to stay at (and the Hooman in Yazd, the Sonnati in Isfahan, the Saraye Ameriha in Kashan, the Wisteria in Tehran and the Orosi in Tabriz turned out to be very beautiful and comfortable indeed). IranAmaze also helped us apply for the requisite visa and insurance, and provided us with an Iranian debit card and an Iranian SIM card.
Our driver & guide Mohammad was very affable and helpful, and was also a very skilled and safe driver, being able to navigate the horrendous traffic in a crowded city like Tehran. I’m particularly grateful that he made arrangements and drove all the way by himself to the airport past midnight on the second day of our tour to retrieve my luggage which, because of an airline hiccup, did not arrive with me when I landed in Shiraz. He was also very knowledgeable on the history, culture, food and current affairs of Iran and gave us very insightful and comprehensive explanations as we moved from city to city and site to site. He also recommended some very good restaurants with excellent Iranian food, as well as places to buy good quality Iranian carpets, crafts (such as termeh, minakari and khatam) and sweets (such as ranginak (Shiraz), gaz (Isfahan), sohan (Qom) and nougat (Tabriz).
The tour also included an outing to the dunes of the Varzaneh Desert where we also visited a salt lake, and spent part of the night in the pitch dark desert gazing at a most amazing sky of stars (including 2 shooting stars).
I am so glad I visited Iran as it is really a beautiful and historically- and culturally-rich country, with very warm, honest and hospitable people. Wherever I went, I very often received friendly smiles from passers-by; greetings like “Salam, where do you come from? I hope you enjoy our country”; requests like “Could I (or my son / or daughter / or family) take a picture with you?”, or even invitations like “If you have time, could I invite you to my house for dinner?” or “You are our guest; please let me buy you a drink…”. Even on the streets or at the airport, people would gratuitously offer help whenever they sensed I needed any guidance or direction. I felt absolutely safe and Iran certainly was not the sinister place that the media often makes it out to be.
Of course, there were some things that needed getting used to, e.g., the very hot (albeit late summer) weather (except in Musaleh and Tabriz, which were pleasantly cool), the not-so-clean public toilets (which I trust will improve over time) and the traffic congestions, but once I learned to deal with these, there wasn’t anything that really marred my enjoyment of the country. It was a pity that because of some religious observance and security reasons, some important sites like the Pink Mosque in Shiraz and some shops and museums were closed on one or two ways, but that might give me a reason to revisit this beautiful country someday.
Overall, this trip to Iran has been a great eye opener, and, as I told my friends and family, I really couldn’t have enough of Iran. Thank you, Ali, Mohammad and IranAmaze for making this one of the most magnificent and memorable tours of my life.
