Established now for almost three years, the venue which is situated close to the Shafa Al Jazzier Hospital and the American Mission Hospital has steadily grown in popularity and become a regular haunt during weekday lunchtimes for office workers in the vicinity as well as proving a destination for weekend diners looking for authentic tastes. Dastarkhawn symbolizes the traditional laying down of a piece of cloth for family and friends to enjoy a meal and Desi refers to the authenticity of the sub-continent. Desi Dastarkhawn restaurant's signature dishes are the Bihari kabab which is made of beef, Chicken Kat A Kat and Truck Adda Karahi. Other favorite dishes on the menu include Peshawari kabab, Chicken Tikka and 'Dekh ki Biryani' with the meat and rice cooked together.

“Delicious Food in a Congested Space”
Reviewed September 26, 2013

We ordered some barbecue and traditional Pakistani dishes. I must say the taste was amazing! The kababs are a must to try! We added Pkistani style "Lassi" (Laban) to the meal, which was also very tasty.

The hard part is to find parking in that congested area. It's highly unlikely that one could find parking, day or night. The Restaurant itself is very congested with a limited space. The outlook does not reflect the taste of the meal!

“Delicious....by Accident”
Reviewed June 2, 2013

We ended up here completely by accident when the restaurant we had planned to go to was closed for a makeover. This was our first piece of good fortune, the second being the food. We ordered a lot, with help from our server. The chicken and lamb kababs (spicy better than not) and samosas for starters were excellent before ploughing into Fish Handi and Chicken Masala, washed down with lassi. The Mutton RoganJosh had a great flavour but was soupier than we'd expected. The breads were great too; I didn't even touch the rice. There wasn't room for proper dessert, but we still managed to put away a few GulabJamuns, which were really nice. Even with the choice of (and cheaper) Indian restaurants in Manama, we'll be going back to DDK.
