“Support the Souk Traders”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 25, 2013

The Manama Souk is one of the oldest markets in the country. It used to be the place to shop, but the new malls have killed the souk trader. It is clean, the traders are friendly and you get to see some very traditional Bahraini things - like the colorful spice market. You will see old Bahraini men chatting in the outdoor tea shops and the gold shops are great. At the entrance at the Bab al Bahrain (gate of Bahrain) is a really delightful souvenir shop run by the government.

“Street market”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 1, 2013 via mobile

If you're visiting Manama it is definitely a place to see, but is not a traditional arab souk such as, for instance, the awesome one in Muscat. Basically it is pretty much like walking on the outskirts of gold n spice souk in Dubai. Traditional architecture is barely visible, also because they closed the main building in an air conditioned window cover. .

“Definitely worth visiting while wandering around Bahrain”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 31, 2013

People didn't believe me when I said they'd be offered "genuine fake watches." You will, believe me. The Gold Souq was fun to walk around and there's lots to see. Talk to people who've been there a while to learn about their preferred tailor, rug seller, or jewelry merchant.

“Food trip”

Nice and inexpensive Filipino food.
Everytime we went to Bahrain, we never missed eating our lunch in this area.

“Good to bargain”

I like window shopping the most… but when you find things you like do not hesitate to bargain. Make sure you buy once you start bargaining.
