This hotel is most likely perfect by Saudi standards, the problem is that Saudi standards are terrible. Wireless Internet just doesn't work (on iPad and PC), there is no business centre and the chap on reception (non Arab guy) is just hateful and rude. Rooms are decidedly 2 star. Even the computer in reception isn't linked to a printer so if you want something printed you may as well not bother. Bloody hated this hotel.

The Mena Hotel leads to mixed feelings. It appears that the hotel is trying to improve its services, but somehow it keeps making mistakes. However, the hotel is very conveniently located in the Olaya district at a walking distance from Al Faisaliah Tower.

I have stayed at the hotel for longer periods of time since the start of 2011. At that time, the construction site at the back of the hotel was still being digged out which lead to noise from 6AM to 6PM. This is no longer the case, as digging has completed and construction has started. I have not had problems with noise from the construction site. At the front, the King Fahad Library construction is still continuing. Progress is being made here and once the park in front of the library is finished (this will probably take some time) this should be a nice place to go to from the doorstep of the hotel.

The main problem I have with the hotel is with housekeeping. Housekeeping is inconsistent in performance. Quite regularly I find that I am missing a bath towel or a hand towel. Also, cleaning isn’t always good – vacuuming does not seem to be done every day. Once I stayed in a room that has a problem with the bathroom drains. I complained about this several times, after which housekeeping dutifully came, used an air freshener to lessen the smell and left with the actual problem still there.

The second problem area is with the restaurant, breakfast mainly. The hotel has a policy that tea or coffee is brought to you by a waiter. Sometimes the waiters are so incredibly slow, that I have finished my breakfast before they come and ask what I would like to drink. It also regularly occurs that there a no clean tables with laid out cutlery available. It is as if the staff is surprised by the number of people coming down for breakfast. I do not notice that the staff works any harder at busy times. At these times, guests will have to be satisfied with a little less service.

The third problem is with the Internet and the wireless network in the hotel. Wireless, I have solved myself by buying a wireless accesspoint at the computer market (very conveniently close to the hotel) and connecting this to the wired network that is still available. The Internet connection, however, can be excruciatingly slow. As if the whole hotel shares a 3 Mbps connection to the Internet. For a business oriented hotel this really is not good enough.

On the upside: the rooms are spacious, the staff is friendly even if a little disinterested, speaking English is not a problem and pricing is at a better level than the international chain hotel(s) in the neighbourhood.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the courtyard may be a little more quiet.

Being a frequent visitor to the kingdom have stayed in different hotels courtesy to the companies who organize for such hotels and Mena was one of them.
Overall it's a very good hotel, considering the tariff rate yes it's on the higher note but the place where the hotel is situated it's walkable to Faisalya tower.
The service is excellent considering that we are in saudi where for the predominant language is arabic but the crew members speak in english fluently. During check out i was late by 3 hours but they did charge me for 1 hr instead of 2 hrs.
The food had mostly continental, saudi and breads and it was served very well. Overall good going and i would recommend for any expat going on business trip then this is one of the nice hotel you may choose..

The room was clean and neat. The food was excellent, it came with breakfast. The site is downtown and near many good attractions. Late checkout is available and rooms were large, however the internet was bit slow, but that was a city wide issue.

I have stayed in 4 hotels in Riyadh now and this rates 4th. Reception and restaurant staff are rude, rooms are dark and if you are facing the building site you not only have the dust to contend with (1cm of dust around window area on arrival) but also a very loud mosque.
Nice enough lobby area and location is good, but I wont be going back. Gym is also in a converted room above the kitchen and poorly equipped.

I have stayed in this hotel a few years ago. Getting a booking in all Riyadh hotels was difficult. When I arrived there was no king size bed room, and my room was upgraded to a suit. The Saudi staff was kind and immediately solved the problem after I complained. Breakfast is over expensive. The location is good Olaya Street very close to Al Faisalia Shopping Center, one the best in the city. Also the hotel is close to Al Tahlia street , where you can find many restaurants. There is Party Ballroom close to the hotel, that disturbed my sleep since there was wedding party taking place, a problem to be considered, next day I was very tired.
