“Ok - but problems with hot water”
Reviewed February 7, 2012

Stayed at the Golden Tulip in January 2012 on a business trip.
It was ok - the room was fine, bed comfortable - the biggest issues for me was the lack of hot water after the first day, and the street noise from Al Maather Street. The rooms facing the main road have a good view of the city centre buildings, but the windows are single glazed and the street noise did keep me awake.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the main road have a better view but are noisy

Stayed there during a business trip to Riyadh. I have already tried several hotels and this Golden Tulip is only average. The rooms are okay, but could be cleaner. FOund some hair on the the toilett seat and the floor which were definitely not mine. There was a clothes line over the bath tub and it looked pretty moldy.
They also advertise with free Wifi, but in my case it did not really work that well. The sound insulation is quite poor and when your room is facing the road side of the building it is pretty noisy. Oh yeah - a mosque is just on the other side of the street and you cann hear the call for prayer at all times.
Finally the selection of western TV channels is poor and there is not much in the Mini Bar. As I was always leaving very early in the morning and only coming back late at night I had neither breakfast nor dinner at the restaurant.
Most negative point at this hotel was the front desk. Check-in took very long and check-out even longer. After more than 30 minutes it was not possible for them to enter the name and adress of my company in a proper way.

The hotel is alright but dont expect anything extraordinary. I would not come again though. Not really clean. The free internet is very slow and not usable.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a non main street facing room. Its busy 24 hours with honking and racing.

I can't compare with other hotels in Riyadh, but next time I need to go there, I will try to stay in another hotel. Rooms looked old, not clean. THe food served in the restaurant was good, but it was almost cold when served. Nothing to do/see around the hotel.

The hotel is a good option to stay in Riyadh with most of the amenities required but without paying a lot. It has free internet access (wifi), gym, breakfast buffet and the room service is not so bad. On the other hand, it is quite noisy if your room faces the main road and quite far from the center or from a commercial area

I can only adivse to book into another hotel especailly when you are not Saudi and on business. I have been travelling through out Saudi Arabia and staied normally in the Le Meridien. great hotel by the way.

AVOID GOLDEN TULIP. Rooms are old small and very noisy. No complimetary water in the room as it is normally a must for a 4 star middle east hotel. Stuff I do not know where to start. DO NOT EXPECT ANY HELP or SERVICE they do the best in ignoring you. Reception is useless. It could be that they do not speek any other language then arabic. Maybe I just was also only unliky and the whole hotel emplyed only Extras.
Internet very slow but free. If you are for business and need the www. forget it you think you connect to a 54k modem from the early 90ies.

When you ask them for something like a taxi then they ger really happy because this is the possiblity to rip the guest off. DO NOT TAKE A TAXI FROM THE CONCIERGE.
