We booked our hotel online via Booking.com for a resonable price, we paid for 10nights, the last 10 nights of Ramadan.
The hotel is rated as 2star but i would rate it 3.
We ended up cancelling our reservation as we were told by family in saudi arabia it is much much cheaper. So family booked us in for an apartment, two rooms for £200 less then whats listed on booking.com.
When we arrived at the hotel we were told there is no booking. And reservations mean "NOTHING". Only Cash. If you dont pay upfront you do not get a room. They do not have a policy of reserving, and you are not garunteed a room. After all this is not Europe so they have very different policies over there. We waited one hour for them to clean and prepare a room for us. No discount for the inconvience..
It is run by saudis so they are more flexiable then the asian run hotels in mecca.
The room was very large with 4 single beds. A tiny kitchen area, Tv and a medium sized shower room. When we booked online on booking.com They said there is a 24hour bus service, free of charge. So we did not mind that its 15min drive from the masjid harram as there is a 24 hour bus service.
WRONG! no bus service at all. The first day we decided to walk to the mosque, what a mistake took us 35mins and it was 50'C outside, mainly an uphill walk. Was a total nightmare.
On the way back we got a taxi, took us 30mins to get one as most taxi drivers refuse to go in the direction of the hotel due to building and road works. They also have the cheek to charge you 150riyals for a 15min journey, we found that they charge these prices after prayers have finished and everyone wants to return back to their hotels. But on one occassion outside of prayer times we managed to get a taxi for 10riyal. So do not let them rip you off.
The next day we decided to take the free bus the hotel offers. LIES, they have no free bus, and we were told we need to go 2 blocks away to catch a bus from another hotel. So again in the blistering heat we walked 10mins to the hotel to catch the bus, which was late.... saudi time. The journey was quick and took 15mins in traffic, The driver told us he will pick us up at the same place he drops us off after Each salah/prayer.
So after the morning prayers we waited at the same spot, 30mins went by, then one hour then hour and a half... no BUS. We ended up gettng a taxi.
We went to the hotel reception and complained of the lack of bus when they said on the website there is a bus, and they do not pick you up. They said nothing to do with them and shrugged.
The next day same thing happened, we were picked up and dropped off at the masjid harram. Again we asked the driver the exact time he will be there to pick us up and he said as soon as prayer finishes. So we left a little early from the mosque just to make sure we do not miss the bus. Again a NO show, and we waited one hour then got a taxi. when we arrived at the hotel we went to the bus pick up area, and found the driver, my husband complained to him asking where he was and all the driver said was that he was there. Lies, the bus was not there. We can read arabic and we did not see that bus there at all.
3 days into our stay we decided to look for another hotel. Luckly the hotel we were at gave us a refund for the days remaning and we found a hotel closer. although due to location of the new hotel we paid double, and the hotel was run by asians who did not care for the hotel or clean the rooms. We had to demand they clean the rooms infront of us to make sure they cleaned it properly, and give us fresh sheets and towels.
The hotel room in Rabwat is clean, tidy and well looked after. But the location is too far, and there is no Bus service 24hours a day. Its only a good place if you can afford 150 riyals a day for a taxi, or own a car or know someone who can give you a lift everyday.
if not then you are better off booking a hotel within walking distance of the mosque.
