“a healthy place to stay”
Reviewed March 2, 2013

Six of us stayed in the Royal Dar AL Iman Hotel in Mecca for our recent Umrah trip. All of us are senior citizens, the proximity of the hotel to the mosque is a plus. The rooms are well furnished, the food healthy and delicious and the staff helpful. Its a comfortable place to stay,it is in the complex of the Clock Tower,(a shopping paradise)which means that everything is within walking distance and cool. That is why we were not exposed to the heat and the dust when going to the mosque or simply shopping. We would definitely stay there again, and we hope that we get a room with a view as I am claustrophobic.

We took the triple room, it was spacious and clean. Its location is very close to Al Haram - near King Abdul Aziz gate. Lots of elevators with minimal waiting time. Nice breakfast. You have the ability to hear the sound of the prayers inside the room. They had a mosque and you can pray with Al Haram's imam in the mosque or in your room.
Only the room service wasn't good enough - they didn't clean the room properly.
Overall it is a very good hotel.

We stayed in 1st week of Feb. 2013. A very busy season. The hotel is really very close to Al-Haram (Grand Mosque), just cross the street and you can reach to King Abdel-Aziz gate or Agyad gate. The hotel is very large, you can easily get lost in the floor if you take the wrong elevator. There are many elevators and waiting time is minimal. The reception area is very large and live with Egyptian, Turkish and other Arab pilgrims but it is mostly Egyptians there.

The rooms are spacious with good facilities (bed, fridge, coffee maker, large TV). Our room had a side view of the grand mosque and it overlooks the live agyad street, so you cannot get bored watching the crowds. There is double layer glass so it is completely quiet with zero noise. The cleaning guys will only clean the room if you post "Please Clean Room" outside the door as some clients don't accept them to go in without permission. They provide mineral water bottles each day. They expect some tips if they clean and you happen to be in the room.

The breakfast was amazing with all types of good food but since there is large number of guests sometimes it is very difficult to find an empty or cleaned table. The variety of the food is amazing, you cannot think of anything that is not in the breakfast offering even fried chicken and beef sausage along with Egyptian beans, tahiena, etc.

On the negative side, the management gave us hard time in the first night as they de-programmed the door to the room as they claimed we changed the room without permission!!! We went back to the room after a long day and then we were not able to go in. Went to the reception to check and they kept us waiting for 30 minutes and we got no explanation except at the end we got an apology and reprogramming of the cards to go back to the room. Very strange indeed (Saudi style I think :-) However, the reception staff were more than helpful in other situations.

We were within a a package through a tour operator so I am not sure about the actual cost.

Room Tip: Front side rooms are nice.

I stayed at this hotel twice. Once in 2011 and the last time in Dec 2012. The previous stay was enjoyable. It wasn't as great this time. The bathroom wasn't clean. I saw a bit of hair near the sink. The room service people never showed up to clean the room during our 3 days stay. We've booked a room with 4 beds for 4 adults and ended up in a triple room. We had to call them twice to get an extra bed for the 4th person.

The gate facing the Haram was closed because of some constructions so we had to take the main hotel door and it's a bit of a longer way than that one.

The check-in took so long as well because the lobby was crowded.

My experience in this hotel wasn't as i expected, for a five star hotel.
-Checking in took about half an hour and the receptionist was not very polite.
-The rooms weren't very comfortable; however, they gave us two connecting rooms (which was ideal).
-Location wise, good. Just a minutes walk to the Haram.
-Breakfast was average.

We had a family of 7 and stayed for 3 days. There are a few other hotels closer to the Haram than this one (Hilton, Movenpick, Raffles etc.).

We've stayed here last Aug. when we had our Umrah. They have really nice location (few minutes walking in Al Masjid Al Haram) and your time will not be wasted waiting for the elevator. The rooms are clean (only on the visible area), spacious and there is a speaker for the athan which will really wake you up for the Fajr prayer. The breakfast is quite good but you really have to be early because they are closing at 10 by 9:45 the staff are starting to clean up.

However, I cannot say that this is a 5-star hotel compare the hotels here in UAE (especially in Dubai) but if your looking for a nice location & u like shopping (as it has a shopping centre located in the 1st & Gr. flr. of the same building) this is a good choice.
