“Toddler crying during Asar prayer in hotel mosque”
Reviewed May 30, 2013

The hotel mosque (Ladies Prayer Room ) in Dar Al Gufran facing the Masjidil Haram is an brainy development though it may look slightly medium size. However, I encountered very unpleasant situation one day during syalat Asar prayer.

1. There was a woman who came with her toddler, and the toddler kept crying before the syalat Asar started just near the back door.
2. The toddler continued crying even during the whole session of the Asar prayer. It was very disturbing since all the women were concentrating on the Asar prayer. I expected the mother of the toddler to stop praying and to bring the toddler out of the mosque room to avoid distraction. But she did not.
3. When the prayer stopped, the whole mosque became like a mad house. The women were making noises because they were angry at the situation that was uncontrollable. Though they should not be blamed, but the culprit was the mother of the crying toddler.

I suggest the hotel mosque’s authority should write a big notice in front not to allow women to bring their toddlers if they want to syalat in congregation there, unless they know the mosque etiquette.

The hotel bathroom should be provided with a seat for bathing, washing legs for those who need sitting while bathing. The hotel room should be provided with standing hangers for those who want to hang up their headscarves, abbaya and more clothings. The hanger on the back of the bathroom door was too high to hang any towels. There are no slippers in the bathroom. The cleaners did not replenish shower caps and bathing gels everytime they clean the room.

Many Bangladeshi workers especially the porters, expecting to be given tips when carrying travellers' luggage to the lobby during checkout time. They even charged 60 SR for 2 X 10 litres of Zam-zam water for travellers. Isn't it Zam-zam water is free for travellers?

Makkah is a Haram land, but these Bangladeshi workers in this hotel tainted the Land of Allah with usury and riba'. Bangladeshi taxi drivers charged SR 50 to Tana'im, which is too expensive for such a short distance.

We stayed at the hotel for 5 nights in May 2013. It was a pleasant experience. Good, comfy beds and strong showers. They even have free wifi throughout the hotel but with varied accessibility depending on where you are. Strongest at the lobby I think. The breakfast spread was alright. Not so much choice and it was not the best I've had but still ok. There are lots and lots of Indonesians staying there so the food will sometimes reflect this. There's also an international food court in the same building. There is also a shopping mall in the building so yeah its very very convenient. Also, if you are travelling with old folks or the disabled, and if they dont want to go to the mosque, they have a musollah (they call it a mosque) in the building itself overlooking Masjidil Haram. The Imam can be heard over the speakers so u pray together with the jemaah in the masjid.

This hotel is about 18 months old. 5 star and then some. With the shear volume of guests at this hotel, I am surprised it has held up to the ratings. Certainly the best breakfast offering I have ever seen- grandest and extremely appetizing. All of it.
The rooms were spacious and comfortable. Bathrooms all have twin basins. A huge shower. No tub- which is a good thing.
Fridge, kettle, hair dryer and the usual shampoo etc were standard. Good quality towels too. Reception and check-in was simple. Too many elevators, and never a wait. There's an office level and a prayer level and 3 levels of souk style shopping with an additional food courts level
Purpose to mecca is spiritual, but these guys know all the buttons to press to sway you Tom commercialism. Yep you will shop and shop and shop. Enjoy your stay and remember me in your communications to your lord.

Very very convenient in terms of distance to Haram and Service. The food spread are superior. Lifts are efficient. They have their own mosque. 1 thing Probably they can improve is security measure.. May be a security card to go the rooms.
