Mount Nebo has a religious value rather than a tourist attraction. This is the place where Moses died. Lord Had promised him, " I shall give you a land of Milk & honey. while in the wilderness, Moses had made a mistake and Lord angered. He said to Moses on Nebo, I shall show the promised land but you can't enter into the land. If a sky is clear, you can view, Jordan river, Jericho, Dead Sea with naked eye. On the way we visited Madaba, where You can see Byzantine mosaic and ancient map of the Holy land.

We started our trip in Madaba which, in itself, is a fascinating experience. This town, located close to Amman, is best known for its spectacular Byzantine and Umayyad mosaics. Madaba is home to the famous 6th century Mosaic Map of Jerusalem and the Holy Land. With two million pieces of vividly coloured local stone, it depicts hills and valleys, villages and towns as far as the Nile Delta.
This ancient mosaic map covered the floor of St. George's church. Although parts of the map were missing yet the depiction was fascinating. The town is also full of places where mosaics are made.
From Madaba we drove up the mountain to reach Mount Nebo.
According to the final chapter of Deuteronomy, Mount Nebo is where the Hebrew prophet Moses was given a view of the Promised Land that God was giving to the Hebrews. "And Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, the top of Pisgah, which is opposite Jericho." (Deuteronomy 34:1).

According to Jewish and Christian tradition, Moses was buried on this mountain by God himself, and his final resting place is unknown.
Looking down the mountain was the spectacular sight of the desert and one can imagine the many thousands of Israelites, led by Moses, arriving to this place in huge numbers. It is an awesome sight and transports one back into history.
The holy land is very close to this mountain. Signs pointed to Jerusalem, Jericho and other towns. What a disappointment it must have been to Moses to come this close, but not to be able to reach the land of his dreams.

This is a very interesting place, the mosaics are fantastic and well preserved, the Serpentine Cross reminds you the religious and significance of the place in history. For Catholics like me it will be remembered because the first visit of a Pope to Jordan. John Paul II of course, followed by Pope Benedict XVI.

worth participating in seeing for the views and the overall trip enjoyment. The history with the archialogil digs in the area and the mini museum give a great feel of the history of this area.

There are some Byzantine ruins here but you'll see much better elsewhere. This is really a site for bible tours - no disrespect intended. For those of us less religiously inclined, there are other things to see in Jordan.
