I think this should really be about a 4.5. Just a few general thoughts from our 1-night stay:

1. Very sparse, but that's in line with the price. If you're looking for a place to lay your head for the night, Mariam is clean, the bed was comfy, and the water was hot. At this price point you can't ask for much else.

2. Breakfast was great. The dining room was really nice - much better than expected based on the room decor. The views are great, but based on the hotels location you wouldn't expect it.

3. It is a little out of the way of the major stuff to see. Maybe a 10-15 minute walk to the center, through a somewhat dirty neighborhood (several empty lots full of garbage). But if you understand where you are, its actually not too bad.

4. Was really hard for us to find. We drove ourselves, and came straight from the airport after dark. The maps/directions on their site don't show many street names, which probably makes sense because the streets aren't well marked anyway. Had to stop for directions 2 times after we'd gotten into town. The location bit is really the only thing that dropped them 1/2 a star IMO.

5. The guy at the front desk (only guy we interacted with) was really nice and welcoming.

Stayed at Miriam for 2 nights last December. Accommodations are simple yet comfortable. What more do you really need. They have a decent breakfast buffet which is included. And if you need a driver for any tours, they seem to get pretty good rates. Overall Madaba wasn't my favorite place in Jordan, but if I were to pass through I would stay at Mariam again.

Staff was friendly, the room was adequate and comfortable, and the driver very punctual and good value for money. However, the breakfast left a lot to be desired. I wasn't expecting a smorgasbord for this price, but going to the empty rooftop restaurant and finding cold, covered plates of bread and processed cheese -with no cook staff- was a big let down.

Mariam Hotel is a perfect base for extended trips in and around Jordan. Value for money. Cheap and cheerful and helpful staff. Our stay at the place was made great, by Mariam Hotel's driver Amin. He was the best driver we have ever had. Thoughtful, kind, safe and organised. So impressed and really enjoyed our time with him and in his country.

We stayed in this hotel on our first night in Amman. Our driver “Ahmed” was waiting for us at the airport to pick us up. He drove us the next day to Dead Sea and then to Petra. He was a very nice guy.
The hotel was basic and bit over pricy for 1 night (40JD). But the taxi services arranged by the hotel was fare comparing to some of the other options available around. The staff was friendly and even provided us with some hot water on request at the night.
The breakfast following day was good. Overall we had a nice stay.
