Across from St. George Church. Ate in the 1st floor bar area overlooking the street. Huge assortment of Middle Eastern tapas. One of the owner's let us experience hubbly-bubbly! What a treat!

Great place in Madaba, in the centre easy to find. We went twice. We had a window table and we liked it. The staff is very very friendly and kind. Jordanian food was very good, really tasty. Prices are competitive

Went here twice, if you find yourself here on NYE they have a big party upstairs and it is all locals. Wish we had the energy to stick around, as we were invited by the owners to come upstairs.

Decent food, good shisha.

Bawabit Madaba cafe is across the street from Saint George's Church. The street entrance is at ground level but the cafe is on the 2nd and 3rd floor. The cafe is modern and everything was clean and tidy. We had a window seat overlooking the street.

I had Shish Tawouck chicken kabob which was tasty and quite good. It came wrapped in a traditional Bedouin flat bread sheet. My wife had a Greek salad which was very good. Try the lemon mint drink. Prompt and efficient service.

I find it as hard to stomach some of the reviews of this restaurant as it was to stomach the main courses the restaurant served.
Bawabit is not so much a restaurant as a bar that serves some respectable mezze that could be eaten for lunch. It is not a not restaurant that one might wish to spend an evening at: tables are covered in tacky transparent plastic (rather like a basic kebab shop in the UK), and the food comes quickly and all together.

The Lonely Planet suggests you might try their Madaba chicken. I did, and it is not good. Plastic, processed, rubbery chicken with a sauce that was certainly not made on the premises, the Madaba chicken would not have been edible no matter how hungry I was from all the Mosaic spotting.

My friend ordered the pasta: perhaps not a great idea in a Jordanian restaurant but then one might think it is simple enough for anyone to cook. Not so, it seems. Overcooked pasta covered in tinned mushroom soup was possibly even worse than the Madaba chicken.

Basically: the mezze is fine, the salads are fine, the place sells alcohol and you get your food quickly for not much money.

If you want to go to a restaurant in Madaba with an atmosphere, good food, and a nice location there is only one place. It might be part of the Romero chain but don't knock it, they know how to cook: get yourself to Haret Jdoudna.
