Great location, clean room, friendly and helpful staff. I was looking for something like a hostel. This is priced like a hostel but better than any hostel I've stayed in. Apparently some rooms here are noisy, but this one was not, very quiet in fact, but I was on the third floor with a room facing away from the street. Room had just a fan and little ventilation so could likely be pretty warm in summer months. I took one of the trips, very inexpensive and turned out to be a stellar trip, don't think it'd be worth the trouble trying to beat that price. Perhaps you could spend a few hours searching and save ...a dinar? Two? Right in the heart of downtown, easy walking distance to Citadel, souq and Roman theatre. Will stay here again next visit.

The Palace Hotel is a good budget spot in the center of Amman. The staff are friendly enough (just don't accept their offer for setting up cab trips, you can bargain with a cab driver for half the price they'd offer). Internet is available for 1JD an hour. Most of the bathrooms have running water, and the showers have hot water (but no cold). The location is perfect, right in the downtown area of Amman and close to shops, restaurants and bars. Bring a sweater if you're not traveling in the summer months, I could never be sure when the heat was turned on.

Good location, good tours (although the Bethany/dead sea one can work out a bit pricey). Friendly staff. Probably won't blow you away but it's more than adequate for a few days in amman.

Lonely Planet highlights this hotel rating it very highly....we have no idea why. The rooms were very basic which is fine however you do want the simple things from a room such as heating and hot water (particularly when it's 10 degrees outside) and neither were working in our room. The staff kept saying it would be fixed but hours late still no heat or hot water and the staff simply couldn't care less which makes you even more frustrated.

Double room cost with private bathroom JD30 (approx. A$42)

Very disappointing and we certainly wouldn't recommend this place. There are a couple of other hotels next door and across the road for the same or cheaper which were far better.

All the other reviews here are accurate from our recent experience. The only thing I would add is that for the moment, there are roadworks going on right outside the hotel - and they start, I kid you not, at 2am. No idea how long they will last, but this was late December and from the amount of work I would guess at least another month or two. On top of the incessant road noise, I strongly advise taking ear-plugs (and an eye-mask might help too).

Our very tired 'double room' had two single beds. The sheets were not full length. Window pane was broken & covered with newspaper.

To be honest, although the price is *relatively* cheap compared to other options, I don't see how they can justify the price.

Still, our experience across Jordan for two weeks is pretty much the same - the quality is all very poor at the budget end, and budget ain't so budget! The cheapest place we stayed in that we actually liked was JD60 a night, so keep that in mind when you're judging economy versus enjoyment.

The initial reaction when you first walk towards reception is excellent with very friendly staff but it unfortunately goes downhill from there. The rooms and bathroom were rather more dirty than you would expect from a Lonely Planet 'Our Pick' and the beds are not really designed for somebody who is 6ft 6.. In total you can't really complain for 18GBP a night. I recommend a short stay, this will be more than fine.
By the way, the towels are approx 1 meter by half a meter - Try and bring your own if you are expecting one :-)

Location: perfectly located in the heart of downtown Amman, it's probably hard to find a Hotel that gives you easier access to Amman's top ancient sites. Roman Theatre, Citadel, Markets, Mosques are just around the corner.

BUT it's located right at the busiest junction at the busiest street in Amman. So make sure you have your earplugs, otherwise you won't find a second of sleep. There is not a second without several, sometimes 20 honking cars below your window.

Rooms are quite small and not very clean, we used our micro fibre sleepingbag inlets instantly. Shower is very small and not clean either, and a bit smelly. However, rooms have aircon.

Breakfast: included and standard Jordan breakfast: Bread, Egg, Butter, Jam, Spreadable Cheese and Coffee/Tea.

All in all: Due to good location and nice breakfast, it's still good value for your money. However, if you have a little more money to spend, rather go to Jebel Amman and catch a cab to Downtown, for a better sleep and some more comfort.
