Our accommodation was booked through Jordan Direct Tours as part of a week and a bit long tour. Checking in was straight forward at 12:30pm and we were lucky enough to receive a complimentary upgrade to a deluxe room which contained a very comfortable king bed. The room was nicely appointed and clean. They also offer a pillow service where you can choose up to 4 different types. The room was very quiet overlooking the pool and downtown area. The Ensuite was clean and well-appointed with a very good magnifying make up mirror.

Breakfast was fantastic and by far the best we have experienced for quite a while. They pretty much covered all tastes, requirements and wants and the staff even asked for feedback prior to us leaving our table.

It is approximately 20mins from Rainbow St but because it was the equivalent of their Sunday, very little was open. We did end up eating a late lunch at Fatatri (Egyptian food) which is on a corner about half way along the main shopping area. It was tasty, filling and very cheap. We also passed Al Quads Falafel shop/take away and unfortunately were too full to try it but it definitely looked very good.

I've stayed a Intercontinental hotels all around the world, and generally find them great. However, this was a big disappointment.

On my first stay, I'd rate the hotel 7/10. Friendly staff, reasonable room. Main problem was time it took to checkin and out! Had to queue for 10 mins to checkin, far to few staff on the desk. Then the process took 10 minutes! Photocopy this, scan that, print this, sign that, do some typing - all at very slow speeds. Seriously, I don't expect to wait 20 minutes to checkin, especially as a Priority Club member. Checkout was just as bad.

On my second stay, my checkin/out experience was just as bad. However my room was appalling! The sound insulation is non existent. I heard everything that was going on in adjacent rooms (including couples!). Then I ran a bath and the water came out dark brown, really disgusting. I don't expect brown water when I'm paying 100+ JOD a night.

This hotel is well maintained and the staff are courteous. The meals are very expensive. Make sure you go to the Lebanese restaurant and have the Farrouj Meshweh (spelling?) It's a fantastic chicken dish and the best meal I had in Jordan. Only a 10 minute drive to The Citadel.

I have stayed at the Intercontinental Hotel in Amman on and off for well over thirty years. During this period, the hotel has constantly evolved, but has not sold out its basic attentive service and its attention to creating a welcoming atmosphere. Today, the Intercontinental has new and renovated rooms, a completely revamped club lounge, and ungraded spa facilities. The rooms are large and comfortable. The internet service is a bit expensive and cumbersome (unless one arranges for free internet service to be included) and breakfast in the Atrium Restaurant is a bit expensive, although there are other cafes and restaurants available. One of the unchanging aspects of the hotel is the reception, which is normally efficient and most helpful. As an example, during my most recent stay, I had a problem with a needed late checkout, as I was taking a midnight flight from Amman to Kurdistan in Iraq. The reception people could not have been more helpful. They suggested an upgrade for a day to Club status, which was not that expensive (compared to a very late check-out), included dinner in the Club Lounge and free internet, and a place (the lounge) where I could wait until departure. This kind of attentive service is one of the reasons why the Intercontinental has remained one of the top hotels in Amman, despite the opening in recent years of many posh hotels which do not have the intimate atmosphere of the Intercontinental. In sum, the Intercontinental has made the upgrades over the years to make it a very comfortable place to stay in Amman, but it retains the intimacy and the relaxed atmosphere which has made the lobby and the lobby cafe a favorite meeting spot not only for international visitors, but for many Jordanians. I was pleased to see the Intercontinental maintaining its standards and I would suggest, if something is amiss, that the visitor take the problem to the staff, starting with the reception desk, who will try hard, with Arab hospitality, to find a solution.

Room Tip: The "new" wing, overlooking the swimming pool area, is quiet and renovated. The Club Loun...

Beware in Jordan-- they add 16% tax plus 10% service charge to all of your food bills and the waiters still expect a tip! So what you think you are ordering is 26% more expensive when the bill comes, with an extra space on your bill for a tip!
Also, local maps and even map given by car hire company very poor, if you visit be sure to take really good guidebook and sat nav for car or you will be constantly lost like we were. Not helped by fact that locals remove signs to force you to hire guide. Ok, back to the hotel.
Security at the hotel was good, bit like the airport with all bags etc checked on entry. Noticed smoke-filled smell as soon as entered because everywhere you look people are smoking.

Stayed there 2 nights, and the Deputy Managers are very helpful. First night on arrival before the drive to Petra and second nite on way back after 3 nights in Petra as a stop-over before flying back to UK. First time around was a better experience as our room keys worked and the free valet parking on my hotel voucher was actually free. Were put on the 4th floor which was non-smoking floor. Room was nice and big (no. 478). But mini-bar was locked so we could not put our water in to keep it cool, you had to pay to use it.
What a shock when we went down to check out the restaurants for dinner. Prices very high as expected for 5 star hotel, but could not eat in the Mexican restaurant as full of smokers. To help us we were sat far away in the lobby in a small non-smoking section and they brought the food to us. As mentioned, had a shock when the bill arrived and found the tax, service charge and expectation of a tip on top of all of that. Breakfast very expensive so negotiated price for coffee and cereal only. Best thing about the hotel was size of rooms and great good size cosmetics.
On return before flying home, room keys would not work so back and forth to lobby 3 times to get keys recoded, really fed up with that. Deputy manager very helpful in sorting out problems we had with hire car -- phoned car rental place and helped us to get a new car. Were charged for the free valet parking even though it said it was free on my voucher (and we tipped valet guys) and they tried to add onto my bill without my asking donation to a charity. I nearly said my donation in Jordan was the 16% tax and the 10% service charge, but I was too tired by then and just wanted to get out as quickly as I could.

I recommend this hotel for smokers and big spenders on business accounts.

Room Tip: If you are a non-smoker, insist on being put on the non-smoking floor, but on the 4th floor in the n...

I stayed here twice, in April 2012 and October 2012. The first time was for almost 2 weeks. Since I stayed here a while I got to know the hotel well. Good restaurants in the hotel. Very nice pools and fitness center. Rooms are very nice. Excellent security at the hotel. The hotel is nice area near Embassies and walking distance to many Arabic restaurants. Inexpensive cab to the citadel or the Roman theater and souk areas (you can walk there to if adventurous. I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Amman for business or pleasure.
