“In the Middle of Town”
Reviewed June 5, 2014

We enjoyed our two nights in the Amman Pasha. The staff was great, the rooms were clean, and the breakfast was adequate. This is a basic level hotel, which reminded us of the austerity of the late Soviet period - an old building worn around the edges. They didn't make up our room, but we were ok with that. There was no hair dryer or the usual soap/shampoo things.

What we loved best was the location. The Roman theatre is just across the street and the Citadel is up the hill behind the hotel. We enjoyed wandering the streets around the hotel. The gold market, the pigeon market, and the anything-you-can-imagine market are just a few blocks away, as is the Hashem restaurant, best falafel in town, they say. Who are we to argue?

The Pasha hotel is not a luxury hotel. It is not a hotel to go to in order to be pampered. ..but it was exactly the hotel we wanted for our stay in Amman.

I was arranging a hotel to stay in for a night on a trip through Amman to Petra with my parents. We normally stay in very comfortable hotels. We decided to risk staying in this Hotel because of the great location. I say "risk" because having read some of the reviews, we were thinking it might be noisy or uncomfortable.

We asked for rooms in the back on the higher floors so that it could be quieter (but the back rooms lack the incredible view of the Roman Theater). It was quiet and we slept very well.

The Pasha hotel is owned and run by a wonderful man named Raymond Gordon who personally looks after things. He is charming, generous, attentive, funny, and knowledgeable about western standards (lived quite a long time in Australia)-- a great host and truly a special person. He and his hotel responded immediately to our emails. I suggest you book directly with them. (They may give you even more competitive rates).

After researching a little on the Web, i decided to arrange our pick up (from the Jerusalem border) and sightseeing drop off/tour with Raymond and the hotel. His prices were competitive and everyone we dealt with was professional.

The hotel is just as it is advertised: Right across from the Roman theater and below the Roman ruins...right in the middle of the markets. You don't need a taxi! All is outside the door! The food is very good (including the complementary breakfast) and sometimes they have spontaneous Jordanian dancing at night in the restaurant.

The bathrooms are a bit simple, but function fine. We slept well. It is 3 star standard. Not 4 or 5 star. If you are ok with this, and you are a tourist, you might consider staying here. It's the most convenient place to stay. If we were coming to Amman as a tourist for a night we'd probably stay there again.

Thank you Raymond for all of your help and attention. My parents and I decided that your hotel deserves a 5 star rating.

I stayed here with a friend for 3 nights. The room isn’t very big and isn’t superclean. But isn’t dirty either. It is a fairly basic room with two twin beds (with firm mattresses) and a TV. The bathroom is on the small side and the water pressure isn’t very strong. If you want fresh air, there is a window but there isn’t much of a view from our room on the first floor (second if you count it the American way). There is a rooster nearby so we get an early wakeup call every morning. Plus the call to prayer from the Mosque is pretty loud too and that is even earlier than the rooster.

There is free WiFi, but the signal is too weak in the room (at least our) to do anything. To use it, you have to be in the lobby area. Breakfast is free with a small selection of Jordanian food (I think) which I like very much.

The hotel is in a very good location. It’s right across from the Roman amphitheater. And within walking distance of all the places we want to see, including the Citadel. Plus the streets in this area are very lively. You can also go up to the roof of the hotel to enjoy a nice view of the amphitheater and the surrounding area.

The staff is very nice and helpful. We arranged transportation from the airport and also from Amman to Petra via the hotel without any problem.

Keep in mind that this is a budget hotel in Jordan. So if you are not use to budget hotels, then it’s probably not a good idea for you to stay here.

Thank you for fair constructive review highly appreciated
The rooster mentioned in your rev.wil l be purchased from the neighbour and moved to a farm .Remain the call to prayer in the early hour of the day.
We have requested the Imam of the mosque to turn off the loud speaker directed towards hotel at night only to help guests have a better sleep. They happily accepted the request
we have appointed a house keeping supervisor(in addition to housekeeping term) to ensure all rooms are clean before become available to customers. We hope to ensure that is done next few days inshala
We try to improve the wifi signal to all rooms
We are glad you enjoyed breakfast buffet.
Thanks for appreciating our tour desk in arranging tours and day trips .
sincerely

I had expected more after reading reviews here.
I emailed the hotel the day before to confirm our flight details for airport pickup and received a confirmation and was advised the driver would be waiting with my name on a sign. Nobody was waiting for us and, after spending 5 minutes on a $4.50 a minute international roaming call to the hotel, the staff member at reception couldn't figure out who I was or what I wanted.
We got a cab to the hotel after wasting 45 minutes trying to locate the driver who evidently never bothered coming.
The room was acceptable for a guesthouse. A bit dirty and dusty with an old bathroom but if you're expecting a hostel you won't be disappointed.
The location is good and the few sights of amman are a short walk.
The best part of the hotel is the downstairs restaurant which was well priced with good service.
I organised and paid for a transfer back to the airport with reception the evening before. Upon checking out, the receptionist just gave me the "ok bye". I reminded him of the transfer to the airport and a random guy in the corner called out "do you need a cab?". I said no, I've paid the hotel for it. He just said "wait, early". It was an odd exchange... We waited 5 minutes while the staff smoked and chatted and then the guy who offered to call a cab walked out to a car and told us to go with him. We make it to then airport, but it just added to a hotel stay that lacked service.

The Amman Pasha is a cute little boutique-in-the-making. The owner and staff are charming and friendly. I stayed there with my college-aged daughter and pre-teen son last September. We had some trouble finding it (we were driving ourselves) and when we arrived the kitchen was closed (arrival time is something to keep in mind) and we could tell they were in the process of updating the property. Even so, Feras at the desk was very welcoming, and did everything he could to make our stay pleasant. He has some wonderful stories to tell about growing up in Jordan, and is an engaging story-teller. The next morning we were left speechless by the view out our window. We were fortunate to meet the owner and his hospitality was superb. I always recommend Amman Pasha to friends who are traveling to Jordan!

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for a room with a view of the Roman theater when booking, and don't forget to che...

This hotel is good value for money, we stayed there in April it has a lovely view from roof over Roman amphitheatre in downtown Amman. A traditional hotel, very welcoming, mint tea on arrival and the breakfast was adequate and interesting, it seeemed very traditional. Our room was and en suite were clean, rooms at the back are quietest. The rooms and furnishings are rather old and the hotel generally quite quaint but for the price we had no complaints and would stay there again for one or two nights.

Room Tip: A room at the back

The best part of the hotel is the location, right in the center of old Amman, near the Roman theater and the souqs. However, this is a very basic hotel with old rooms / toilets, so don't expectm much from them at this price. Also, the rooms and toilets were not very clean. However, the staff was friendly and the breakfast buffet was good.
