Having now stayed at two hotels in downtown Amman, I have come to expect basic but adequate accommodation at a bargain price, and the Arab Tower is perhaps the best, and certainly one of the cheapest. Like most places in downtown Amman, it wouldn't win any awards for style and elegance, but it does all the basic things, and well at that.
We were given a suite of two rooms, each of which had what passes in the area for a bathroom. This comprised a sink and toilet, and a shower which soaked the entire room, and - if it wasn't blocked - drained through a hole in the floor. A culture shock for some perhaps, but it does what it says on the can. The beds were comfortable, the rooms were clean, and our room had a panoramic view of downtown - although not all rooms are so blessed. Other things in its favour are a lift (although this doesn't reach the top floor), free WiFi in the reception area (although the service was patchy and intermittent, which certainly wasn't the hotel's fault), and a decent breakfast in the roof restaurant. Hotel staff in Jordan aren't noted for a particularly friendly welcome, but we had no problems in this case.
Although the hotel has a lift from reception, this is only accessible up a steep slope to the entrance, then some steps, so it isn't ideal for disabled visitors. Also be aware that - like in all hotels in downtown Amman - you are likely to be awakened at the crack or dawn by amplified calls to prayer from the nearby mosques, and that traffic noise can be quite intrusive, as the hotel is next to one of the main thoroughfares.
All in all, you get what you pay for, and for possibly the cheapest hotel in Amman, this hotel represents superb value for money. If you want something luxurious, look elsewhere, but be prepared to pay much more. Note that they do not accept credit cards.
