“Great value for money”
Reviewed April 8, 2011

If you're looking for a budget hotel that's situated in the heart of downtown Amman, the Arab Tower Hotel is great value. We booked a double room and ended up in a suite with two tiny bathrooms for the same price. The rooms are clean and comfortable with free in-room wifi and the bathrooms come with hot showers. The breakfast is pretty basic with pita bread, labneh, boiled eggs, toast and spreads (jam, cheese, honey), tea and coffee. The staff is friendly and helpful.

To get here from the North bus station (where the airport bus drops you) take a taxi and pay no more than 2 JD. Settle this in advance as drivers can take you around and charge you more.

PS: If you're especially sensitive to noise then this isn't the place for you, being that it's located right on the street.

This a simple, no-frills, central budget option. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms are very basic but clean. The breakfast was ok. It's a great price so I would say it's good value for money. The shower is indeed a hose in the bathroom but I found that was not uncommon in the Middle East, including much more expensive places. If you need a cab have the hotel arrange it for you. We didn't have good experiences with cabs we picked up on the street. Also have the hotel name or destination written in Arabic to give the cab driver. None of the cab drivers recognized our (attempted!) pronunciation of the hotel name or the art gallery.

Amman isn't a beautiful city, so it follows that the Burj al Arab, though sharing a name with one of the most famous and expensive hotels in the world, is not aesthetically attractive. It is located just off a main road full of scrappy market stalls (in fact the same road as the Roman amphitheatre), up some steps, next door to a fried chicken shop. My room was quiet, with satellite TV and dull decor, and the bathroom was basic, with an efficient shower, but no room for a tub/curtain to stop the water going all over the toilet/walls. I also found some ants wandering around the room when I arrived, but no more appeared after that. Despite this, I slept well, and found the staff to be lovely, helpful, and welcoming. They helped me arrange personal tours around the country for decent prices, and the room itself was pretty cheap anyway. Breakfast is very basic - pretty much bread, tomatoes and cucumbers, boiled eggs, labneh, and tea or coffee, but there are lots of local restaurants and shops which are cheap and very good, particularly the bakery up behind the hotel, where the staff were incredibly friendly and generous! Though most people don't go to Amman for sightseeing (I wouldn't recommend more than a day for it), the hotel is well-located to see what it does have to offer, and it's easy to get around from there if need be. I felt very at home in this hotel, where the staff, though professional, were more like a relaxed group of friends working together, compared to the sometimes cold staff of other more expensive places. I guess ultimately this would be best for young people who don't mind slumming it a little, but if you're on a budget, you've nothing much to lose by staying at the Burj al Arab, and you'll probably get to experience one of the best things about Jordan - the amazing people.

I've been reading too many positive reviews about the Arab tower hotel and I don't think this is right, as I was misled by them to think it was actually going to be value for money. While it is true that the Arab tower hotel is in a great location, frankly, it is a little too downtown. There is no need to stay right at the foot of the Citadel and the Roman theatre. The noise is unbearable, we were hearing a construction site until past midnight and from 7am every day. There is not just ONE mosque waking you up at 4am but TWO or THREE (I've lost count). The window could not shut properly so I woke up one day with a sore throat which cost me a swim in the dead sea (believe me, you don't want that!)
The bathroom, had a hose... yes, a hose, as if we were bedouins in the desert!
The breakfast was poor, but at least had some yougurt, pitas and coffee. The staff, though was friendly and, even with bad English, tried to help to tell us how to get around.
I do not think i'll ever be staying again in this hotel (even as a backpacker).

Good location, clean. Great starter point for yr travels around Jordan though I would recommend to go to Madaba straight from the airport and maybe explore Amman last day as there isn't much to see.

They have a list of day trips (Petra, Dead Sea etc) which i thought were very reasonably priced and you can also hire a car through them.

Before you book anything with any agencies asked the guys in the hotel if they could do it cheaper - they offered us a good price to Allenby Bridge - 17JD.

Reception staff is excellent!

After reading all previous reviews, I thought the hotel should be really something. So I was a bit disappointed, when we moved in. The problem with the shower is not that it is small (it actually dries quickly), but that it is shabby. It is either renovated long ago, or renovated with wrong materials. The hotel is not awfully dirty but because of the old and dirty walls in the room and bathroom it's difficult to say how clean it actually is. It is really like staying in the hostel with deem lights and cold detached atmosphere. Now about good stuff.
1) Staff is very friendly and helpful, they have lot's of tours organized from their site.
2) Location is very central and convenient, Citadel and Roman Theater are in a walking distance and walkes are nice.
3)There are heaters in the bathroom, so always hot water. Make a note of that, it's important.
4) Breakfasts are good, of course it is not buffet at Kempinsky but who would expect that.
Overall good value for small money and convenient base for exploring Jordan.

Location awesome. Rooms clean and staff very good. Moman working on making changes to improve guest concerns. Older hotel with outdated furniture and small bathrooms. The staff and location make up for that. I have been all over the world and middle east and found most hotels have their issues. This is a work in progress but worth coming to for the reason you come to Jordan: it's people and incredible history.
