“Perfectly Adequate 3* Hotel”

I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights during March 2012. As I was in Amman for business reasons it provided a good base to allow me to get around town easily enough as its location on a main road allowed me to get taxis at any time I needed one.

The hotel is only about 3 or 4 years old and so is modern and clean with polite staff, although their grasp of English is somewhat limited. In the entrance foyer there is a selection of comfortable chairs to rest on, the Reception Desk, and a small cafe area serving a large selection of quite good food and drink at reasonable prices. The menu items can all be ordered via room service if you prefer.

My room wasn't particularly large but it did manage to squeeze in a double bed and a desk but that only left a couple of feet spare room to move around. There was a double wardrobe with a good sized safe in it. There is a small shower room and pedestal basin. A flat screen TV is provided but only had 2 English language channels available. No tea/coffee making facilities are provided. An iron and ironing board can be requested but the board I received had a very old and torn cover on it which was a shame as it wasn't in keeping with the standard of the rest of the hotel. A small fridge is provided with a few snacks and drinks but these are not free.

As a base for a few nights in Amman the Retaj is perfectly adequate and you could find far worse for a similar price. It is only a few minutes walk from the Four Seasons and the Sheraton Hotels which allows you to dine at those and have alcoholic drinks if you prefer.

Room Tip: Request a room on the 3rd floor or higher to minimise road traffic noise.

i stayed in Retaj 3 times. the location is close to everything you need in Amman. you almost find everything you need in this hotel,,the hotel is very clean. food is not that much but you can always go out..

I would potentially stay at the Retaj again. I am never a fan of staying at American brand hotels, like the Four Seasons down the street.
The location is right on the ring road system. Which means it's easy for cars, and horrible for pedestrians.
If I went back to Amman, I think I would like to stay closer to the 1st circle - Retaj is by the 5th.

If you are not sightseeing, and just want a nice place to stay, definitely go with the Retaj.

We were at Retaj for 2 nights in January. The hotel is about 30 minutes drive from the airport by taxi. We paid 20JOD for the journey and found out later that the hotel charges 30JOD for a trip to the airport.

Retaj is aesthetically beautiful. Its furniture rivals those of a 4-star hotel and it is located about 25 minutes drive from downtown Old Amman, the area of the Old Siq / Citadel. We took a taxi and it costs us only 2JOD.

We were however, rather disappointed with its service. We asked for a hairdryer at the front desk and were informed by the staff there that he will check whether they have one available and bring it to our room. We waited for his response but when he did not get back to us, we called the front desk, only to be informed that he could not find one for us.

We were given a room facing the main street and it was very noisy. You could hear the traffic from the road below, even after midnight! In the mornings, you could also hear guests from other rooms slamming their doors as they get out from their rooms.

Breakfast was mediocre.The hotel could not provide a map of Amman when we asked for one. Internet services can be purchased for 5JOD for a 24-hour usage and there is a cable for you to plug in your laptop in the room. The connection was ok for emails but slow for uploads.

It is unfortunate that we did not find Retaj to be good in all aspects. As we have said, the rooms are beautiful and it certainly has potential to be a very good hotel.

Amman has a lot of backpackers, and a lot of high end hotels - the Retaj is a perfect mid-range hotel. The rooms are spotless, the staff extremely welcoming and friendly, great breakfast. The staff helped us with missing bags, car hire, arrangements for our journey into Syria... The location is slightly out of town, but is practically next door to the Four Seasons and the Sheraton - handily there is an HSBC next door as well. So it's a nice area and only a few minutes in a cab to the town centre. We would definitely recommend this to people as a good hotel for Amman.

Hotel looks like new, excellent location on a main road, easy access to either downtown or to the airport. But the best part is the staff - They provided excellent restaurant recommendations, made the reservations for us, and provided the hotel car to drop off and pick up. They could not do enough during our stay - Extremely friendly, welcoming and want to share their country with visitors.

We decided to stay there after a really bad experience at the Sea Rock Hotel, we drove by and found ti really nice from the outside, on the inside is even better, the Hotel is mostly used by Jordanians business man and do have all that annoying anti terrorist security stuff that you found at other hotels for tourists. Staff is very helpful, rooms are excellent, with WiFi and plasma TVs, very comfy bed, breakfast is good with plenty of local delights, but do not expect to find sausage or egg and beacon. Location is excellent, car parking is free and there is plenty of cabs at the avenue.
