“The opposite of palatial”
Reviewed April 15, 2013

When we arrived, the first thought on seeing the sad, neglected foyer/reception area was 'uh oh'. I think we were the only people staying there, and it had an lonely, folorn look to it all. However, its positive points were that the staff were friendly and helpful (they even volunteered to get up and give us an early breakfast at 5am, because we had a really early start...which we did decline, but it was nice of them to offer).
The rooms were pretty grotty: mystery bottles of liquid in the bathroom, a bath towel welded to the floor, possibly with mould, who knows? Considering that we were the only people staying there, they could have given us a room with a view, but we got a room with a view of...a wall! Cheered ourselves up with a shower which could be described as lukewarm at best, and then got into the beds which didn't look as though they had the cleanest sheets in the world.
We felt almost sorry for the place, and decided that it was officially the 'saddest' place we stayed in on the whole holiday! Unless it sorts itself out and has a serious refurbishment (or even just a good clean would be a start) I cannot imagine how much longer a place like this could last, given all the better options which exist in Amman at similar prices...

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the citadel..apparently some of the rooms do have great views of it, a...

We arrived here after our journey from Damascus and found the staff to be quite cold, maybe we had just been spoilt by the wonderful Syrian people. Managed to haggle 10JD off the cost of the room which I thought was very expensive. Our first room had a horrible view and the towels did not smell clean at all. Moaned as the light socket was faulty and got moved to a better room with a view overlooking the citadel walls. Breakfast was OK. My beef was that for the money the hotel was not that clean, and even though the staff did get better during our 2 day stay I didn't think they were friendly at all. Lot of money for what you get.

We stayed three nights as part of a tour we bought. We seemed to be the only ones there so they had no hot water for our morning shower. This changed when they had larger tour groups staying at the hotel. Meals were satisfactory individual and varied until tour groups arrived which meant that we could partake of buffet breakfasts and dinners as we had paid half board. Buffet breakfast was the same ,boiled eggs , no bacon, no toast, artificial fruit drinks. Coffee was always served mid way thtough the meal. Staff were courteous and friendly. No hair dryers. Towels were coarse and muticolored. TV was useless. No in room mini fridge. Charged for bottled water at meals.

We spent three nights in this very nice hotel. The room was nice and clean, beds OK but the A/C was a little "tired" but worked. The breakfast was of ordinary "middleeaststandard", no such luxery as omelets and scrambled eggs, just tea, jam and chese.
The location is very convenient, a long step takes you downtown i just a few minutes.
Firas Palace´s real gem is Mr. Ghnim in the reception! He makes you feel very welcome and is always ready to help you.

The room was nice with good furniture and a functional bathroom. The view was the back staircase & the cliff wall. At least it was quiet. Very negative: the carpet…. I am pretty immune to filth but this was a bit gross even for me. Problem is not the cleaning staff, it’s just that you can’t clean a carpet if you don’t have a vacuum cleaner. Someone in management should have thought about this. Breakfast was good but you need to be there early as refills of the buffet are few and far between. Location of the hotel more or less on top of a hill is a downside for me. There was one restaurant / bar right next door but it was closed; lots of other places are half a kilometer away down the hill (stairs). All in all, a nice room with decent breakfast. If you don’t mind a filthy carpet and an “uphill battle” on your way home, it’s OK.

We were stuck in here as part of an organized tour. The staff were helpful but that's about the only positive thing I can say. Well, also the rooms were large. On the downside, there was black mould on the shower curtain and the carpet was filthy; generally the place was run down and grimy. I expect that the tour got a great price and that's why we were there. The location is not bad, practically downtown in the old part of the city so this is one advantage.
