Having veiwed and enjoyed the photography of esteemed photographer, Rudi Weissenstein in exhibitions in New York and Pennsylvania, stopping at Zalmania while in Tel Aviv was a must. The shop continues to have a wonderful intimate feel and the staff is attentive and helpful. I was especially happy to comb through albums of Rudi's photographs that capture the history of Tel Aviv and Israel prior to its establishment and as the country developed - black and white images of the day-to-day and the extraordinary. One of my favorite remembrances of my trip was a print of a favorite image, perfectly sized and finished, professionally printed while I waited. Zalmania is more than a shop, it is visual feast of historic imagery. Tammy M.

Today we walked by Zalmania and went in because the old pictures on the windows captured
our interest.
There really is a hidden treasure inside. All the old photos from between around 1930 to 1960
are really beautiful and give a nice idea of what the spirit must have been like in Israel back
in these days.
You can buy postcards, posters, pictures, books and a DVD for quite reasonable prices
(a postcard was 10 shekels). The staff is very helpful, friendly and makes you feel very comfortable at the place. The swing music, which is playing in the background supports
that feeling of travelling in time.
So, definitely a place to visit!

This is a beautiful place. I visited several times and each time was greeted with the biggest of smiles and warmth. It is amazing to be able to revisit old photographs of not only Israel, but of Tel Aviv itself. Being able to browse through the many many archival folders displayed in the store is fascinating. Postcards, magnets, posters, books, and a documentary made about this unique shop are all available to buy and take a little piece of Israeli history back home with you.

This shop was just a truly magical experience which gave me a sense of nostalgia. After visiting the store i saw the movie. It was incredible to understand the history of not only the photography but of the family itself. Ben, the grandson of Rudi Weissenstein, (the photographer) still works and runs the store today. I would strongly recommend coming in and exploring a part of Tel Aviv, you cant find anywhere else.

Thank Michal and Ben for all your help!!

I've been to the Zalmania a couple of times. It feels like a lovely time capsule...
I enjoyed looking through the great photos and what this city looked like a century ago, the people, the way they dressed, famous persons and my favorite – old means of transportation.
I also like the way the shop is set up. It's clean on the eye – not too busy like some stores. The photographs are easy to roam through and look at, and lots of postcards. It feels like a mini museum with a warm nostalgic feel, and I love the hidden/urban location. I highly recommend a visit.
