I love this hotel! First, I think everything in this hotel was hand crafted or picked by someone with a big heart-- every chair, every meal, every rug, every soap, every drink at the bar, every waiter, every chocolate ;-).
If you are looking for a beautifully designed, personal real, authentic experience-- which can accommodate and customize for whatever you need, this hotel is over the top.
I was with my 3 year old son. When we arrived the girl in the front area, Maya, area saw my son peeking into the lobby and gave me some tips for touring the city with children, --and when we walked into our hand-selected room --soft, beautiful and enchanting in brown fabrics, Nespresso coffee pods for me and tiny wrapped chocolates in tin treasure boxes, beautifully designed for him. A relaxing heaven in a busy city, quiet with beautiful little balcony. I have been to so many boutique hotels, where you feel that you need to be careful with kids, this is a really fancy feeling and yet comfortable place. Especially great was the fact that the hotel is in the center of a safe and central location-- easy to get food (we went to a nearby tapas bar) and a stroll-able, incredible part of the city with great shopping, people watching, and I suspect the area where people would love to live.
Even the bathrooms, gigantic mirrors and bathtub, tall ceilings, gave every area a sense of spaciousness. My favorite place to sit was the roof terrace with beautifully detailed railings and tables and floors. My son wanted blueberry pancakes. Not sure those are actually on the menu, but he got feeling they will make you anything you ask for ;-) and they did -- effortlessly-- discreetly, without making you feel like you were asking for anything special or charging more for the customization.. (By the way, don't miss the breakfast. it is really really good)
We stayed 4 nights. My friends were staying in a few different hotels, and they kept coming and eating with us at the Alma hotel and then we'd cruise around our neighborhood and everyone wanted to come up and see the rooms (the rooms are themed and customized)... which the staff somehow managed to tidy up when we didn't notice, at all the right moments. Actually this is really the main thing I'll change next time. Go visit the other neighborhood restaurants more - and also I might stay in one room a few days and then switch, just because I wanted to see the other rooms.
The Alma experience is wonderful unique really-hard-to find combination. They say the architectural style of the building is Eclecticism (just before the famous bauhaus) -- Well is an eclectic combination-- Stunning and beautiful (which actually is easier these days), hand crafted and comfortable, peaceful and relaxing, and incredibly immensely personal.
