the history of independence of isr reads like a fantastic novel-if u love history and things that deal with military/ intrigues/ warfare etc-u gota try to make this museum. Isr has the most museums per ca pita so its not an easy pick.

No matter what your views are on the Middle East conflict - and I have very strong views indeed - the Hagana Museum is worth checking out. It's far more well done and accessible than the nearby IDF History Museum (which is really only for military hardware buffs), with multimedia displays, videos, and all sorts of neat bells and whistles. Naturally only the Israeli narrative is presented - you couldn't expect anything else - and depending on your views, there will be numerous occasions for raised eyebrows. But underneath the Tel Aviv facade of normalcy, israel is fundamentally a nation constantly at war, so seeing this kind of thing is also part of the experience. Worth a visit.

Having learnt about the different strands of the IDF, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the head of the Hagana had lived in Tel-Aviv and his home had been preserved as a museum. It's in Rothschild Boulevard (not far from the Shalom Tower) and is located on three floors. It tells about the two main strands (Hagana & Palmach [museum dedicated to the Palmach is located in North Tel-Aviv]). There is an introduction film of about 20 minutes which explains the role of the Hagana in forming the IDF which is shown in different languages prior to you actually visiting the museum proper. I would recommend this hidden gem!

Quite an interesting little museum about the precursor to the IDF,(the modern Isreali army), the Haganah. Good photos and movies in english and hebrew, but would have been nice if it had been a bit larger. A word of caution: the man on the door of the museum is military and is very polite but you may need to have your passport on you to enter, take it along just in case. Also saw lots of young national service kids there, so it can get really busy, they weren't in my way though and were well organised so no problem.
