Historically and Biblically relevant, where cedars came from Lebanon to build the first temple! The gate to Old Joppa is there where you can see "Simon the Tanner's" supposed house where Peter had his vision.

A lovely place to walk and if desired to shop and eat in a wide variety of restaurants. It can be accessed via the main Tialet so if one wanted a very long walk from Jaffa to the port of Tel Aviv it could a good few hours with time to stop for a coffee or meal. Cycling on the Tel Aviv port area is a problem because it is often very crowded and on Saturday it is just packed with families out for a weekend of enjoyment and meal- with breakfast being very popular.

The old port has been transformed into a tourist paradise, daytime or evening restaurants offering a mix of cuisine. Ask for the Spanish Restaurant and try their home-brewed beer. Special!

Tel Aviv port, on the mouth of the Yarkon stream, is one of the most enjoyable places in Tel Aviv.

Almost every spot on the seaside strip is perfect for watching the surf, and the sunsets are marvelous. Climb the pier for an especially good view.

The small farmers' market is worth a visit, and makes a good place to have a light lunch or dinner. Fiori pasta, Delicious meat sandwiches and Sherry Herring are all warmly recommended; None are tourist traps.

Other culinary attractions include two of Israel's best ice cream parlors, Iceberg and Vanillia, and Cafe Nimrod which offers an awesome breakfast.

The port is also a crossroad of several nice routes for strolling or jogging. To the north, a bridge crossing the Yarkon leads to the Tel Baruch seaside broadwalk. To the south, the broadwalk continues to Tel Aviv's bustling beaches and reaches old Jaffa (see 'Tayelet' reviews). To the east, a paved trail leads to Park Hayarkon. All of these can also be traversed by bicycle.

We bough fresh herring sandwiches from the sandwich stall, go easy on the spicy sauce, and a wonderful glass of white wine from one of the bars.
We took them outside and watched the gulls dipping and flying and listened to the jazz. All in all a nice haven for a few hours.
