“Can't fault the location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 22, 2010

My friend and I stayed here end of August beginning of September as a last minute holiday. I booked this hotel through Expedia and taking into consideration the peak time of year which we were travelling we got a really good deal for what we were expecting – a modern boutique style hotel.

We arrived at some ungodly hour in the morning and considering check in wasn’t until 12pm we were put up in a holding room until our room was ready. I booked a Superior Sea View room, the pictures on the website looked amazing and considering I had visited the country before I didn’t feel the need to Tripadvisor the hotel.

Upon being allocated our room I have to say I was disappointed. The view wasn’t very Sea like and our room didn’t really seem like the ones I had seen in the photos – there was also no balcony and the photos which were brought to my attention through Expedia showed a balcony. I spoke to reception about it and after some haggling paid an extra fee to have a room with a balcony.

The room we were then allocated was superb! Fully refurbished and a shower you could fit at least 6 people in (if you’re into that!) – but be prepared the bathroom window is at a strange angle.. This room was definitely like the photos I had seen – it actually felt like we were staying in a different hotel. Double aspect floor to ceiling windows, huge bed etc..

A couple of perks to this hotel is the free intl landline phone calls available in reception and free internet. Breakfast is lousy, staff were ok, just make sure you have some banter to get them going but the real gem was the location – smack bang in the middle of the promenade.

Booked a standard room for a week but on seeing the room we were disappointed not to have a balcony so decided to pay an upgrade to get this. Superior room we got wasn't any larger but was modern, clean and adequate (although the bathroom window view was odd). Good bed, Good TV but didn't get to test the Expresso machine as you had to pay extra for these from reception (even after paying for the upgrade).
Service was poor throughout the whole hotel. Barring the service from the deputy manager the remainder of the "princesses" behind the reception desk were actually more interested in themselves than the customers. It was like the guests were an inconvenience to them and we witnessed on many occasions their poor attitude and service.
Service at breakfast was just as bad. The host attendant on entrance did not once wish us a good morning, greeting or general recognition. Breakfast was average and only reached that level because of an egg chef if you could find him and then get him to actually cook for you. Replenishment of food was also poor and you had to chase staff continually to refill. On shabbat they would turn off the orange juicer and expresso maker which was odd as power was still working for other equipment.
The complimentary bikes are a great added extra but they are in dire need of upgrading or at least some maintenance. If using make sure you are aware they will also charge you $250 US if the old bike is stolen.
The location of the hotel is awesome as its smack bang in the middle of everything and across the road from a fantastic beach. To save a few dollars look out for AM/PM convenience stores for cheap beer/wine to take back to the room.

We choosed this hotel (5 days) as part of a package with a flight and based on previous reviews. The location is perfect with quick access to the beach (just one road to cross). The swimming pool is really really small...

The room we've booked was a Superior Sea View room but when we arrived we were told that we were "upgraded" to a family room with sea view..... which turned out to be a street view on the first floor. But the room was newly refurbished, with a big bed and lots of space. The street noise was correctly blocked by the double-glazed windows. The room was cleaned every day but they will always forget something. Either the shampoo is missing, or the tea cups, or all the towels...

Room service was terrible. We ordered breakfast on the next morning with boiled eggs (soft inside). When it arrives, we realized that they gave us hard boiled eggs. OK, no big deal but we told the waitress that we had ordered soft eggs. She then looked at us with a wince and said that we got what we've ordered. She didn't even appologise for her mistake. We then insisted on getting what we've order. We also had to call them again as they also had forgotten the cutlery and salt/pepper. They were quite upset that we had to call them twice to finally get what we originally ordered...

On Saturday morning they refused to heat our baby's food in a microwave because it was Shabbat. My wife had to go back in the room and warm it bit by bit for half an hour before our 1 year baby could eat. I complained to the Food Manager and told him they should have a microwave (next to the coffee machines) for these kind of situation. As a Jew myself, I know what Shabbat means, but to be honnest, this was a ridiculous situation. They have coffee machines and other food warmer plugged in the mains but can't have a microwave at the same time. Go figure out... If you want your baby to eat hot food on a Saturday morning, then you will have to find a solution yourself...

Finally when we left, the receptionist just gave us our invoice without saying a word, not even asking how was our stay or saying thank you for staying there.... They truly have a lot to learn about service in this hotel and I would certainly not recommend it to a family travelling with babies.

With regards to your remarks concerning the room our new family room are on the 4 floors and fancying to city of tel Aviv or a sea side view.
Concerning the microwave, in Shabbat all hotels in Israel are not allowed to use electricity warmer, but for baby's we have another solution of warming.

having stayed in several hotels in Tel Aviv, The Orchid Park Plaza was THE BEST. The service, from bell boy to Managers, could not do enough to please us. The rooms are amazing, beds (I wanted to bring it home). Breakfasts were excellent....you certainly won't need lunch!!! Cleanliness second to none, and you only have to ask for another towel and housekeeping was there within minutes. An added plus which I have never seen in any other hotel in the world, was the FREE TELEPHONE SERVICE IN THE FOYER. You can call anywhere in the world for free. Unbelievable. Also free computers for guest use. This was not restricted to Executive Lounge but also available to all guests in the foyer. All of this and the staff was just so friendly. This hotel made the experience of a holiday in Israel just so fantastic, and we certainly would not go anywhere else on our next trip to Israel.
Thank you all if you see this!!!

My wife and I used to stay in this hotel for 7 nights in the end of September, 2010. This is the second time we were here. The hotel is located on the sea promenade, against the beach, the 15-20 min of a stroll from the city center and main trade streets like Sheinkin st. The racy and authentic oriental Carmel Market is just in 10-15 min walk as well. There are many restaurants and cafeterias all around. Room prices are rather affordable and seems reasonable compared to the neighbor hotels. Although the hotel's building looks not so modern and new outside as it's neighbors, the hotel is clean and cozy inside. Our room was quite spacious, well equipped with furniture and clean. The only problem I can complain about the room is that there was no refrigerator in it, just a tiny minibar. This was odd and illogical taking into account the fact that the room was equipped with a kitchenette and a microwave oven. The wifi in rooms is complimentary; although in our room the wifi signal was very weak, Internet was working without any problems. There is a swimming pool in the hotel but it is rather tiny; but what's the idea to use a pool if you're just in 2 min walk from the beach? The hotel's staff is very friendly and responsive. What I can suggest to the hotel's management is to do something with elevators. They're have really nice interior but their operating logic is just awful. There was almost no day when we were not waiting about 7-10 min for the elevator to come to our floor. But if you have a good sense of humor you must not be frightened about this. All in all the Orchid seems to me a good place to stay when you are in Tel Aviv for vacations if you're ready for some small compromises for a reasonable price. We'll definitely return to this hotel and would recommend it to our friends.
