“Nice lobby, shame about the rest”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 11, 2013

Rooms are very basic and old. They could do with a refurbishment. Not worth the money. They evidently spent a lot on refurbishing the lobby and that's what you see in most of the pictures. Room service food is OK. Gym is OK but has pretty old equipment.

Room Tip: Ask if they have any that have been refurbished recently.

The hotel location was good - a 5 minute walk to the beach, however, this was the only positive feature of the hotel. We were automatically upgraded to an executive suite, which added a living room to our bedroom, but I would have preferred a single small room with a good large bed. We had two twin beds on rollers! which would not stay next to each other. Free WiFi was good, while the breakfast buffet was mediocre. The floor where we stayed was "under construction" - I think our room was the only completed one, and when we arrived, the electronic door lock was not working. We had to wait for the maintenance person to come by and replace the battery.

First, as context, I should mention that Tel Aviv has a severe lack of reasonably priced, 2/3 star hotels in a central location.

The metropolitan has many "single" rooms in the hotel. All very small, twin beds, small window. Not nice, reminds me of Paris and London hotel rooms, closets. I did get good sleep well, thick walls and didn't hear my neighbors.

Internet: a huge disappointment and failure. When I checked in, I found the only way to get reasonable internet for my phone and computer was to sit by my door. When I talked to the assistant manager, he did his best to find me a new room with a better signal. It really didn't work (I appreciated the customer service and help but unfortunately it really didn't fix the problem). The signal in the whole hotel was so weak and slow, I couldn't do much of anything I wanted. It wouldn't even load certain pages.

The pool area only gets sun until about 1 or 2pm and is in the shade after because of other high rise buildings that block the sun. It is not a place I found welcoming to hang out, the deck furniture is very old.

The breakfast has many choices, most anything.

Summary: the hotel has a good location but the room, internet, pool is all a disappointment.

Nice hotel 2 min from main beaches and the US embassy. Large suite on the 16th floor for 175 USD a night. All was good, very comfortable and people are nice. However can't give a mark higher than average as the breakfast are truly below what you expect in such an hotel. Juice is just colored water, there's indeed a lot of choice for local food but forget about a decent breakfast with eggs. tomatoes, bacon etc. Just not available !

Good location - 5 minute walk to the beach. Centrally located. Standard rooms are relatively small, same for the bathroom - but functional and clean. Staff is very friendly, knowledge and helpful. Breakfast buffet was good, though wish there was fresh fruit and more options. Would return & recommend.

We stayed here with a groupd of friends and found the hotel very accomodating. They arranged an area in the dining room where we could sit and a lovely synagogue where we could do our own services. The rooms are small but recently refurbished and comfortable. The elevators are not able to hold a lot of people, which sometimes caused delays in getting up and down. The location is great, a block from the beach. The food was very good and we ate 3 meals there. It was a great place for our get-together.

Once again we stayed at the Metropolitan Hotel and like previous visits found it clean comfortable and welcoming. The food is excellent and we could find nothing to complain about.

We could certainly recommend it. The location is good for the beach and public transport, and the pool is welcoming after a day of sightseeing.
