“Many options available, but we made a great choice”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 6, 2013

It's often said that when choosing a hotel consider location, location, location. We did. And the Tel Aviv Herods definitely has an amazing location, right on the beach and minutes from Tel Aviv's main attractions... both day and at nighttime.

But to our surprise the most surprising feature of this particular hotel was the service service and more service, not something one expects too often in Israel.
To dish out some complements, everyone from Idan at the front desk, to Maria and Dannit in the exec lounge, and Meirav, who was always hovering around to make sure everything was 100% up to guests expectations, was on the ball doing their best to meet our ongoing needs.

Other considerations: Aaaamazing breakfast buffet. Forget Vegas. This is it. Endless choices, and very good waiter service. Cappuccino counter sometimes needed an extra helper, as a line would form and the wait could be a little long.
Friday night dinner is a feast to behold. A tad expensive, but well worth the expense.
Small Gripe: Valet service was very inefficient for parking the car. When arriving, its a little frustrating as the lone bell-boy or valet might be elsewhere leaving you waiting.

Rooms are a little dated, but considering the price per night, well worth it.
Recommendation: Get a room with access to the Executive Lounge. Beverages and snacks available almost the entire day as well as personal check-in and assistance with any requests.

Would definitely return.

Room Tip: Best rooms are highr floors that face NORTH

Right on the beach, but Tel Aviv is a dirty place to start with, and this hotel barely cleans up on that impression. The room had rough edges everywhere. God forbid I would have to stay there for more than the one night. The A/C stinks. The WiFI is NOT free. The bathroom is quite small, the shower same.

I'd call this an average 3 star hotel, but US standards.

Check in was quick, but not efficient, as I found out when I went for a coffee in the car three hours later: I was never checked in.
Room was small but furnished ok. Not enough plug outlets, tho.
Hallway decor was outdated, elevators were cramped. Getting off the elevator on the fourth floor I detected a sewage smell the first day.
The bathroom needed a lot of TLC, especially the toilet and the tub. Counter and sink were in decent shape but.. Out of date
Breakfast was pretty good but that's usually the case in large Israeli tourist hotels
The hotel us the northernmost property in a set of four properties all next to each other.
Herods looks out over a deserted square that had been popular 30+ years ago. All the stores there except for a kiosk
are now closed..it looks very sad.
The lobby and lobby bar need a going over. It was clean, but, like the rest of the hotel, very outdated. I visited each of the three neighboring hotels in an effort to find a newspaper. All three appear to be in much better shape than Herods.

We stayed 2 night Idan from the reception was GREAT!
We came for our daughter's wedding, we booked the rooms for the families who came from Australia and New Zealand to celebrate with us.
The rooms were on the top floor as we requested in advance, the ocean view was spectacular.
The service was quick and efficient,
The business Lounge breakfast was good with beautiful view of the ocean.
The staff was friendly and keep checking that every thing is ok and we have every thing we need.
We would like to praise Idan Dror that did every thing he could to make sure our day is stress free. he's willing to help and costumer service is hard to come by in Israel and around the world.

Room Tip: High Floor got great view

This is the first time I have used Trip Advisor to write a review, but felt I should let other potential guests know our experience. We spent six nights at Herod's, a Tel Aviv hotel on the beach! Before we booked, we looked on Trip Advisor to see the feedback, which was mostly good so we booked it. The hotel is honestly very tired, run down and dirty. The pool is very small and has just enough room for around 10 sun loungers! It most certainly is not a 5 star hotel, even though the prices charged makes you think it is!

When we eventually checked into our room, after a 25 minute queue, when we were shattered from our 3 hour drive from the Dead Sea. When we eventually got the keys, we made our way to the room, we walked into a disgustingly smelly and unclean room. The waste paper baskets were still full from the previous occupant, the bathroom was disgustingly unclean with dirty towels still on the floor and the bedding was stained and ripped, with actual HOLES in the bedding! The balcony was extremely dirty with plastic grass of the floor (like a 5 aside Astroturf surface) and literally full of cigarette buds and chewing gum!! In addition, the air conditioning did not work at all!! The hallways were run down and the carpet was full of stains.

This was our first holiday with our young baby and the fact that the room was unclean, meant that we didn’t really trust the hygiene of the housekeeping staff and the way they clean. My wife felt like she had to clean the bathroom so we could bath our child!! You do not expect this in a 5 star hotel! If your room is on the side where the strip club and a night club is, get prepared to stay awake the whole night!! Plus, on the same side there is a road that curves right in front of your windows so the noise from the traffic will not let you sleep, even if you do not hear the music from the club downstairs.

I requested within minutes of checking in, to be moved rooms but they said this could not be done that evening and we would have to wait until the next morning first thing. The next morning, I had not heard from them, so I go down and ask why we hadn’t been informed when we would be moving and that this was ruining our plans Gil and the on duty managers did not care less.

I then requested several times to speak with the hotel manager and guest relations manager (Galit and Merav), who eventually came to the lobby to speak to me, who to be fair were very caring, but by that point we were so fed up! She kindly apologised for the errors and agreed the room was in a bad way. She upgraded us to a level 8 room (which was only slightly better), access to the lounge and free Friday night dinner for two (which wasn’t great – food was overcooked!)

Whilst in the new room, my wife clearly displayed the do not disturb sign on the door, I also personally informed Merav and Galit that my wife and the baby do not want to be disturbed. Having done all that, the house keeping staff ignored these instructions and the DNB sign and knocked on the door, in turn waking the baby. Then, no joke, 10 minutes later, after another reminder to Merav, a man not in uniform, opened the door and walked in without knocking!! Around an hour after this, guest relations tried to deliver a bowl of fruit and a bottle of wine, yet again waking the baby!

In summary... this hotel does not even merit a one star rating, let alone the 5 star rating, they currently have! I will never stay at any of the Herods group hotel’s again, even when they keep offering me a complementary night, that of course has restrictions in June, July, August, September and October!!!!

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to post your review. Our guest feedback is a very important tool for us in order to develop our service.
It is always regrettable to know we have fallen short with one of our guests..
We apologize for your first experience with us on the night of your arrival. As Galit and Merav were explaining, there was a problem in the computer that caused the confusion.
Unfortunately, it was unexpected.
I was happy to know that ever since the moment you informed Galit and Merav, they did everything they could to provide you a pleasant stay ; such as upgrading your room and inviting you to have dinner on Friday night. I was a bit surprised to know our food did not meet your expectations since we have a very high quality of culinary service.
As you can read from so many other reviews.
Regarding the complimentary night you were given, I was sorry to learn that you were disappointed with the restrictions. Those restrictions are valid all over the world.
we still hope we will have the pleasure of hosting you again at Herods Tel Aviv Hotel to your best satisfaction.
please contact me directly prior to your next visit.
Best Regards,
Koby Hatzoel

I'm the manager of large group from South Korea, and I've been this hotel more than 6 times for last 2 years.
Whenever I visit this hotel, I always received good impression for staff's excellant service.
I always requested lots of things to the managers, front desk members, and other people.
It's always lots of works, because our group is more than 30 people.
All hotel members do their best to fulfill our request.
Thank you very much for it always, and I'd like to recommend this hotel to other people who have some plan to visit Tel-Aviv.
