My family did a 12 day trip to Israel which culminated in a four night stay in Tel Aviv to relax before getting back to the real world. We had previously stayed at the Dan Tel Aviv and loved it a few years ago and were assured that the Carlton would meet the high expectations that the Dan set. Unfortunately, it did not. While the staff, specifically the general manager, was quite nice and accommodating, things never went quite right. Every step of the way where there was a bump the manager offerred to fix it with free drinks, free spa services, free internet etc. While these were nice perks, at the end of the day, I'd rather get what I pay for, rather than being offerred free services to make up for the standard amenities that were missing.
A main plus is its close proximity to the harbor. We had wonderful dinners on the water and nice strolls back each evening.
I will say, despite the negative taste in my mouth, this is still a much nicer hotel than some of the older resorts on the Tel aviv promenade. They have gone through a major renovation and the rooms are certainly more updated than other hotels in similar price brackets. I cautiously recommend this hotel, and I assume it will run much smoother as the renovation project comes to a close. Additionally, since many of the other reviews are so positive, we may have just experienced an off moment.

Room Tip: The higher the floor, the nicer the view!

Returned from a most excellent week in Tel Aviv and our stay at the Carlton was wonderful. We had a nice room on the 10th floor overlooking the marina. Although the room itself was fairly small compared with other 5* hotels it was superbly appointed and very comfortable. The rooftop pool was just sublime with fantastic panoramic 360 degree views and the staff were extremely attentive (especially Gal) who took care of our every need. One of the key things that makes this hotel so good is the attentiveness of the staff - like the pool attendant who moves your brolly round for you as the sun traverses. The sushi bar also gets a thumbs up. Finally as testimant to how good we thought it was we're already booking again for September......

Tel Aviv is a pricey city and very crowded along the oceanfront. That said, the Carlton does a great job of creating an oasis in the bustle. The staff was fantastically accommodating, the rooms large enough, clean and nicely appointed. We had a spectacular view of the Mediterranean and enjoyed having a balcony to use at the end of the day. We were travelling in a large group of 45, (with 16 kids!) and all our rooms were ready and the luggage was brought to the rooms quickly. The back of the hotel opens to the "boardwalk" and self-service bike rentals are there to pedal to any of the beach spots (included Jaffe). The amazing breakfast is served on the dock. Our favorite part? Before dinner swims in the brand new pool on the roof with the entire Med on one side the city skyline on the other.

Okay. So the hotel itself is just fine, and the beach and marina are right there in your front (or is it back) yard. The room we had was well appointed and on an upper floor overlooking the Med. The breakfast was abundant and the breakfast area has a super view. So what's to complain about?
First, the wi/fi! Ten dollars for 24 hours use in the room, and it keeps dropping you. Before you realize it you're back on 3G.
Secondly, the area immediately around the hotel is scruffy. On the way to that breakfast with the gorgeous view you'll probably pass by a dumpster. (Frankly I don't remember a specific dumpster in this area, but it was a dumpster-type area.) If you wander around the street-side of the hotel on the second level you'll find trash. With a few planters and brooms the outside could be as inviting as the lobby, but it wasn't happening while we were there.

Dear Tootsie64,
Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us. Your comments with regards to the Wifi charges have been passed on to our management team, but as have been noted in previous reviews are considerably lower than in surrounding hotels. Additionally we do have 24 hour technical support available for internet connection issues. The promenade area between the hotel and the breakfast location has been completely redeveloped by the municipality over the past few years. We hope that you will give us the opportunity of welcoming you back to the hotel in the future.

We were lucky to receive an upgrade to a beautiful suite on the 12th floor. Newly remodeled the hotel is beautiful inside. The room was gorgeous with balconies overlooking the marina and the sea. The service was always gracious and helpful. The breakfast, while not the largest selection we have experienced, was fresh and beautifully presented, complete with a wonderful selection of freshly baked bread and eggs made to order.
We were here to lead a congregational tour and then enjoy a few days with family. All in all a great place to relax.
