Tel Aviv is just too expensive and hotels have mastered the art of ripping the public off. The Carlton is reasonably priced in comparison to the nearby Hilton and the other 5 star properties located on the beachfront. The location of the Carlton is great and the newly opened roof top pool is awesome. Two major complaints: firstly it is sheer madness that a 5 star hotel charges extra for wireless and use of the gym; secondly the bedrooms are dated and need a proper renovation.

Dear Pietergel,

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at the Carlton Tel Aviv. As mentioned in previous reviews, there is no star rating system for hotels in Israel and we at the Carlton do not make any claims in this regard. Your comments regarding the extra charges have been noted, but as have been explained previously these are standard practice and in many cases significantly lower than in surrounding properties. We were surprised that you found the rooms to be dated since we have just completed a major renovation project in which each guest room has been completely renovated. We hope that on your next visit to Israel you will give us the opportunity of hosting you once again and that you will enjoy your stay with us.

Whilst not living up to the 5 stars as they claim, I was overall impressed with this hotel.

Was very impressed with the breakfast - one of the best ive had in israel. The new breakfast area is a big plus.

The pool is a lovely area, with great panormamic views - if a bit small. The sauna/steam room is nice too but costs 5 $ which is ridiculous.

The room (royal executive) was tastefully decorated but on the small size. Insist on a sea view - really lovely.

Choice of food in the executive lounge is limited but the service is exceptional.

All in all a good option on the beach of tel aviv.

Dear Elliot1984,

Thank you for your review and we are pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. It is important to note that there is no star rating for hotels in Israel and the Carlton Tel Aviv makes no claims in this regard. Your comments regarding the charges for use of the sauna/steam room have been passed on to our management team, but are standard practice in many hotels in the surrounding area. We were somewhat surprised to learn that you found your room to be small since our rooms are amongst the largest of Tel Aviv hotels. We hope that you will give us the opportunity of welcoming you to the hotel once again in the future.

The building and location are great and the breakfast room out over the sea with a killer selection of middle eastern breakfast treats are not to be missed. The room had a few weird design issues including a door that was impossible to close due to where they installed the dead bolt and a light in the bathroom that throbbed like a disco ... Worst was the gym, three Cardio machines and a few weights with a $5 charge to use them, but the gym where every hip Person here works out, Gordon Pool is a five minute walk. Overall I would stay here again

Room Tip: Get a high floor and a view if possible

Dear BillArning
We are very pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us, and have passed on your comments regarding the room design to our maintenance department. Your feedback regarding the gym charge has also been passed to management, but such fees are standard in many hotels in the area. We hope that you will return to stay with us in the near future.

Our first stop on what was to be a two week tour of Italy after a long flight. At check we were met with a cool drink and some yummy refreshments. Our room was comfortable and roomy. Breakfasts was on a deck over looking the Med and included Caviar and Vodka if you wanted it along with a great omelet station. My only complaint was the expensive cost of in room internet and think it should be gratis in this day and age. Otherwise a lovely two day stay.

Room Tip: try and get a room facing the water for a great view of the coast line and sunset
