This was my third visit to Bertie, after a long absence. My previous visits had left an ambivalent impression; not so this one. What I had was a ridiculously over-priced, mediocre lunch. For no less than $100 (NIS 354, excluding service), the price of a nice lunch for two at many up-market establishments in Tel Aviv, I ate a Fatoush salad - tomatoes, cucumbers and croutons with so much lemon juice that it was hardly edible; a piece of grilled fish that was somewhat undercooked (unappetizing red streaks) and under-seasoned; 2 glasses of decent white wine; and a pear-and-mascarpone dessert that was actually quite nice and not too sweet. This, with a double espresso and a shot of Bechrovka amounted to almost 400 shekels including tip. How this place gets to be mentioned in the same class as gourmet restaurants such as Sheila and Toto is a total mystery. Avoid!!
