“Delicious food and great atmosphere - what else do you need?”

Bertie - "a happy Levant kitchen" is a new-ish great place for eatin' n drinkin' in TLV. Whether youre on a date, catching up with an old friend on the comfy bar, sitting around the big table inside with family/friends or chillin' casually outside on the sidewalk (heating lamps are now standing when its a bit cold), Bertie is a great spot for all of the above with an awesome soundtrack of arabic/greek/israeli tunes in the background (that still allow conversation). The ambiance is chilled out, warm and inviting, with a friendly and professional staff that are happy to help when it comes to deciding on what to order. Straightforward, simple and delicious food served on sharing plates from super fresh produce covering all categories: Veg, wonders of the sea , land animals and sweets to finish off with. I havenow tasted most of the dishes on the menu and cant say that even one of them was a miss. Each plate deliveres a great story when all ingredients combine, and you will find yourself asking for more :) oh yeah, and there is great Arak (anis flavoured local drink) that you can wash it all off with, served by the cm... for all of you winos, a small selection of wines by the glass is also available.
Some of my favourites were chared vegetables with yoghurt, fresh raw pieces of intias fish with chilli, lemon and turnip; slow cooked veal cheek (the kind that almost melts before it hits your mouth) served with turkish spinach and local labane cheese (I want more!), and one of a kind malabi dessert that i can still taste.
Well done Bertie team, keep up the good work and your delicious creations like only you guys know how to! cant wait for my next visit :)

Try everything on the menu. The boss is ex Gordon Ramsay, so he can only be fabulous. Great place, will return soon!

“very good”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 13, 2011

This restaurant named after King Edward the Seventh of GB, "Bertie", has just opened and is still in the first running stages but already there is a big crowd every evening despite its location - no close parking, situated mundanely behind a bus stop - it is surprisingly refreshing: the proprietor visits the guests, giving them a warm and welcome feeling, the waiters are knowledgeable and friendly and the food, oh, the food, very good. Served tapas style, it is exciting, experimental but mostly very g o o d. It is best eaten as a shared meal where everyone tastes all the portions. We had herring in sour cream, fish patties, sweetbreads, thin lamb ribs, a heavenly salad with huge croutons, and three kinds of dreamy deserts. Much use is made with sour cream throughout and this is both surprising and refreshing.
