Shalom Hotel & Relax Tel Aviv - an Atlas Boutique Hotel
Ranked #4 of 101 Hotels in Tel Aviv
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed June 15, 2014

The Shalom and Relax Hotel is run by two professional, extremely competent women, manager Eti and her assistant Simone. These two try very hard indeed and succeed with lots of charm. The spirit of Golda Meir is alive and well and living in Hayarkon Street Tel Aviv. And Ben Gurion's house is close by too.

The Shalom has been a hotel for at least forty years and in its present incarnation as part of the Atlas Boutique Hotel Group for about three. The location is great, near the newly refurbished Port Area which has been developed into a busy, buzzy outdoor retail and restaurant mall. Most things in Tel Aviv are within walking distance. The main downstairs reception/lounge/breakfast area is bright, airy, comfortable and welcoming. The breakfasts really are as good as the various TA reports attest. Start your diet now and don't bother with dinner. The chill out rooftop terrace is a great bonus. As in other Atlas hotels happy hour is a welcome, generous extra freebie, especially after a hard day pounding the streets of this humid (but cool) city.

However, even the Shalom is not quite perfect. The wifi signal in my room was very weak and I had to repeatedly log in. Why do Israeli hotels not make their wi fi as simple to use as hotels in Europe do? I would have liked the sex workers' cards strewn all over the pavement /sidewalk outside the Shalom to have been removed more frequently. The size of our superior room was just about OK. Don't expect to hold a party in your bedroom. It had the narrowest entrance door I have ever encountered in any hotel anywhere. Guinness Book of World Records? You could just about have swung a cat in the bathroom but only just. Hayarkon Street is busy, Israeli drivers make liberal use of their horns and like to play their music loud 24/7. All part of the Tel Aviv experience.

A special mention for our hardworking housekeeper Tatianya. She really is a star providing service with a smile. Nothing was too much trouble and answers to our questions were delivered in her unique cosmopolitan blend of Hebrew, English and Russian all with that warm, genuine smile. Lovely.

Room Tip: Some rooms are very small, not quite Japanese sleeping in a pod style but it's worth checking ou...

My daughter and I stayed here at the beginning and the end of our recent trip to Israel. We loved the look and feel of the hotel: beachy, small, service-oriented - the kind of hotel where they can't do enough to help you! The Israeli breakfast was the best we had anywhere in Israel - including at their other property (the Arthur Hotel) in Jerusalem! We had a macaroon-like cake that we are still pining for... My only criticism would be that the bathroom was just so tiny in the second room that we stayed in. Then again, that room had a better view than our first room. All in all, a wonderful hotel to discover!

We are frequent visitors to Tel Aviv and Shalom and Relax is the best hotel we have found there by miles! It is clean, comfortable and goes the extra mile to ensure that guests have all the need and little extras too. Our room was quiet and the bed was great. Staff were helpful and friendly. The best feature of the hotel is the roof terrace. It is gorgeous! We sat out there to watch the sun set and to chat with friends. Lots of comfortable furniture and incomparable views. We also enjoyed the seats on the 'veranda' at the front of the hotel - convenient and relaxing for that last cup of coffee after breakfast - which, incidentally, is plentiful and delicious. Altogether an impressive experience, which we will be repeating as often as possible.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quieter. Great views across the sea from the front.

We spent 5 nights there. The entire staff was so helpful and friendly; the breakfast was plentiful and delicious; the room was very clean and quiet; and the location was so convenient. It was a wonderful experience!

Room Tip: higher floor, facing rear of hotel was very quiet.

The best of everything. Great spacious room. Fantastic breakfast and happy hour food and drink!
Great location!
But, most of all the we truly were pampered by the staff at the hotel. The people friendly, caring, professional and just wonderful. The environment is one of peace and kindness.

In one word we would say this hotel is FANTASTIC.

Firstly, I was surprised about the price for the hotels in TLV, They all pricy. So plan your spending accordingly: breakfast- from 6 am till 10 am. Very delicious, includes salty as well as sweet treats, freshly cooked omelette, eggs you can get for free.Fruits ( apples) were available during the day ( at reception/dinning zone). Rooms: small ( regular as for London), we took double standard room and it feeled not enough space. Bed: check out if you are higher than average ( for me 1,75 cm) was not enough, also its small for 2 people ( not wide enough). Bathroom also is very small. All like London style sizes. Anyway all in the hotel is well designed, clean and comfy.
Rooftop: great view, very comfy to spend hot period of day reading, listening to music.I wish it could be opened at nights to watch the stars.
There are a lot of supermarkets nearby (e.g "IN THE CITY" its Russian one, AMPM works 24 hours). Food is very pricy even in shops (150 NIS) for 2.
The hotel is close to TLV port, Gordon beach/pool. As a taxi friver said the location is the best one! So you will like it if I like it for sure!

Room Tip: the road is very noisy at night, so try to choose the room on the south side. If you can pay more c...

Modern, crisp and gorgeous, this boutique hotel's rooftop views of the magnificent Tel Aviv sunset, rival those of the nearby Hilton! Evi, their GM is warm, welcoming and extremely capable, running a flawless hotel that seems to the guest to be effortless in delivering. Budding star, Keren Maman, with warm smiles, and ultimately, hugs!-- made sure that every dietary consideration was met and our tastebuds tantalized! Avi and Yuval, front desk staff were unbelievably serviceable. In sum, if you are planning a trip to Tel Aviv, The breakfast area and lobby encourage you to speak to other guests, and undoutedly, you will meet interesting, engaging people there as well!. DO NOT MISS THIS HOTEL EXPERIENCE!

Room Tip: FYI - rooms are tiny - but somehow, they work well!
