“Historical area of tel Aviv Jaffo”
Reviewed March 7, 2012

can you believe that already in 1856 a group of American christian pilgrims decided to come and built a neighborhood outside of the city of Jaffo. Tel Aviv was not yet invented. They have brought with them, American timber to built the houses for their community.
The last community member left left the holy land and the settlement, about ten years later. The German temple Society bought the houses and started a new German Colony near Jaffo. Today the area is under renovation, partially renovated houses, and still you can see the unique beauty of the area.

“Between Jaffa and Tel Aviv”
Reviewed May 12, 2010

The American colony was established in 1866 by a group of Americans from Maine who built their houses from wood they brought with them. Things did not go well and they left after about 2 years. The colony was sold to German Templars who added stone houses, built hotels and developed the colony into a touristic center. They lived there till World War II.
The abandoned houses were finally declared for restoration by the state of Israel.
This is a piece of history hidden between Tel Aviv and Jaffa.
